ilmor
No one can deny that over the past 49 years, the Ford Mustang has consistently become a bigger, heavier car (with the exception of the Mustang II)....... http://www.stangtv.com/news/2015-ford-mustang-to-lose-400-pounds-vs-current-s197-model/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=2015-ford-mustang-to-lose-400-pounds-vs-current-s197-model
yellow pony
Its always good to lose a few pounds whether it be a Mustang or some of us "old" guys! However, I'm still hoping the 2015 body style turns out better than the concept photos in this article... Otherwise I'll be sticking with the S197 body style till the next redesign! -yellow pony
SteelTownStang
... the length is suppose to be reduced by15" as well. It's definitely going to be a smaller car. That roomy back seat just got a little more cozy Edited August 18, 2013 by SteelTownStang
NMAv
If that is the final product, I'm right there with you on sticking to the S197.
JeffJ
The pictures in that link are of the EVOS concept from like three years ago, so I can absolutely guarantee you that this is not the final product.
2010KonaBlueGT
If that is the final product, I'm right there with you on sticking to the S197. My SVT Manager described the new body style to me, using a S197 and showing how much lower, shorter, etc. it will be with his hand. I doubt ANYONE is going to like it. It's going to be *small* and *low*, at least the hoodline is lower, shorter hood, slightly lower roofline, etc. I can understand why the 5.4/5.8 is history (at least in the Mustang). It ain't gonna fit! Phill

speedrx
Lots of assumptions without real data, why don't we wait until Ford actually delivers the car (or at least shows us the real thing) before we all decide we don't like it. Phill Well the way I look at it Phill is if Ford was able to sell the fox bodied Mustang they'll sell the next smaller gen Mustang because it ain't possible to have an uglier Mustang than that was..we won't like it I'm sure of that but some will. JMO of course.
Torch40
I don't know. A light car with a 5.0 sounds pretty quick. Give me a paddle shift option and I might be one of the "likes".
William Rodgers
I am open for change, I think the Old body style has played out by now, I still love it, but change is needed. I think they are smart going smaller and lighter, we will see how radical they go, hopefully it is not over-styled.

And I have a feeling, that's what they're doing. Me? I like my Mustang because of the Retro styling. The same reason I like my Harley's (retro styling). 2007tungstenGT500
i don't see it as 'retro' at all. i just see it as a modern interpretation of the original design and an evolution of what the car was when it was introduced. in my opinion, it represents what ford should have done with the mustang for the last 30 years. like the 911 or 3-series, the body styling does not need to be radically changed every 3-5 years for the car to be viable in the long term. When i look at the history of the mustang across the various platforms, it looks like the engineers, designers and executives all suffered from attention deficit disorder. there's plenty of opportunity to enhance, revise and improve the car as a whole, from an engineering perspective, in my opinion, without grandiose changes in appearance. RUFDRAFT
+1 - the VW Bug has been successful for how long with just minor tweaks. Miata - same thing. Nissan Z car, too. Change mechanicals and such - leave the body alone when you get it right.
Ernest
Just slap an Astin Martin badge on it, its obvious where that garbage styling is coming from.... (see 1st image attached below) "Ohh but the mustang is much more angulary n stuff" Yeah, a boxy astin martin.... Every manufacturer does this crap. They give you awesome, take it away for a time, then give it back to you. Anyone remember 1994? lol.... I remember being jealous of my friend getting one of the verry last 5.0s, what was I thinking... Oh yea, I'm jealous its a new mustang, but its kinda ugly... The dodge charger looked nothing like the old charger, hell they gave it four doors. However, out of the gate is was a good mercedes based chassis with RWD and an good powertrain options. 250,000+ miles later, my father, mother, now sister's (passed down) 3.5L 2004 charger has taken happily her through highschool, college, and gets her to Vanderbuilt hospital for work now daily. Point is, that car wasn't what anyone would have envisioned it to be, but given a chance, it was, and still is, an awesome car. Maybe that will happen here, maybe this is the next fox body that was so much fun. Maybe they couldn't make the mustang look fit the new specs. Maybe they are just lazy, copy and pasting from left-over astin martin engineering. In any case, this is a car that will have to work hard to win the hearts of nostalgic mustang owners. Like it or not, looks like its on its way... (see second attached image)

I wonder if Ford would dare make a 2 seater.
Denstang65
All I know is I saw a young Asian adult at a gas station today driving in a new V6 Mustang. He totally loves the car. So I do not buy the "changing the Mustang to appeal to younger drivers" excuse Ford uses as one of there restyling reasons. I am sorry guys, if it does not look American to begin with, I will not have anything to do with it. Building an American built car to look Euro is like saying it is ok for illegals to have drivers license's, if you know what I mean. I never liked the newer GTO's that tried it, and it failed. I have a feeling GM and Dodge will be leading the pack in sales after the new Mustang comes out, because those will be the only real American Irons left. Sorry, I feel like not giving Ford a chance. They already have the Focus to appeal the Euro styling crowd. The Fusion is a nice looking sedan. Ford has the truck and SUV line worked out. I feel they should not tamper with the classic pony car feel. Obviously, Ford is not listening to people when we say "don't do that". Why can't they trust us. We were right before. Ford is trying to make the Probe again, metaphorically.

At least that's the impression I got but can't say either way for sure. I know he gets to go to places (like Flint Rock) and see things that the General Public never get to see. Yeah, I would *much* rather have a bunch of illegal's driving around on public streets unlicensed, untraceable and uninsured and unable to get insurance. Makes PERFECT sense....Don't it? Duh...
