Redlinetoys
A few weeks ago a long time friend went with my son and I to a cool car/air show at Sheridan Airport in Sheridan, Indiana. We had no idea what to expect, but off we went in the Shelby and my son's little Austin Healy that has been in the family for the last 43 years. What we discovered was a fantastic event with a lot of interesting cars and airplanes. Shortly after we arrived, one of the organizers approached us about using the Shelby in the air show. At first I said no, but then after thinking about it (for about 2 seconds), I grabbed the guys shoulder and said, "Heck yeah!" It was just a small event, but I got to go to the pilots pre-flight meeting and was issued a radio and a waiver. My buddy cracked up because a giant firetruck and ambulance rolled on to the tarmac just as I went in to sign the papers. Much of the air show was centered around large war birds and also early vintage bi-planes, but my gig was to "drag race" Bob Richards in the Pitts Special stunt plane and then to line up at opposite ends and play "chicken" for the crowd. My son took photos and I met a great guy, Irving Washington who took some of the more professional shots. WHAT GREAT FUN!!! We were really wanting to go to the Columbus Good-Guy Nationals on that date, but weren't able to go for the whole weekend. This show was supposed to be the "consolation prize", but it ended up being the main event! I know it wasn't a huge deal and all of the racing and stunts were totally staged and safe, but it gave me quite the thrill and literally made my year! I thought I would share...
