I bought my car in Buford , but I live in Sandy Springs, so I was wondering if Cherokee Ford in Alpharetta or Sandy Springs was OK to do an oil change on my '13 GT500? young768 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Share Posted July 24, 2013 I can't recommend them on my own specific experience, but the Georgia Regional Mustang Club (which i belong to) has a great relationship with them, and we have never bad any issues with members getting work done there. Check and see if Larry Day is still coming in to work on cars at their shop and see if he can do the work for you. He used to wok part time out of their shop doing Mustang and Shelby only upgrades He did the custom tune on my SGT (seemly signature) but out of his shop at his house. He knows his stuff ad has even supercharged a few SGT owners cars on the forum. Hope that helps !! Andy PS - send me a PM sometime... acroholic Posted July 26, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 26, 2013 Well, the other day (no responses in this thread yet) I went to Sandy Springs Ford to get an oil change. One of the first things my service advisor told me was I should think about rotating my tires, which are Shelby 50th Anniversary Alcoas with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 305s on the back and 285s on the front. Great product knowledge there. Can't do that to the stock tires either. I was told the oil change would take no longer than 45 minutes. So after 30 minutes my car was still standing where I parked it, except it had been started/stopped several times to let the other 7-8 cars around mine that had come in after me, so I went out and had them pull the plastic from the seat, and I drove home. I haven't typically used dealers in the past for my cars (I have for the wife's Mercedes for obvious reasons), but when I moved my office they were a lot closer than the old mechanic I had been using for a long time on my Ford products...if it was something I couldn't do myself. Cherokee Ford is close to my office, and they have taken EXCELLENT care of me. I have gotten to know the Service Bay Manager (Nick Payne) on a first name basis so well that when I call his direct line and I say "Hello" he knows it's me just by my voice. I always ask when I call if they are too busy to get me in, and they always say they will make a spot and then deliver as promised. Only once did they say it would be a tough squeeze, and I told them I'd try a different day - appreciated the honesty. They use only one/same mechanic work on all my cars (Casey), and it just so happens that he worked with Larry Day (see post above) for 10 years as well and knows his stuff. I even had them do the tranny work for the recall on the 2nd to 3rd syncro in the shifter...no problems ever since they took care of it. I have only bought a battery from SS Ford, so I cant speak to any of their service shop attributes, but I have been more than pleased with Cherokee Ford in Woodstock...and yes, it is about 15 miles away from Sandy Springs, but it would give you a good reason to go for a spin as well. As I was about to drive out, the Service Manger came out and asked what was going on. I told him exactly what had happened, and he gave me a business card good for a free oil change. An attempt to make it right, but I would have liked to just have gotten it done in a decent time interval. I wasted half a day on this and then messing around with doing the change myself. I upgraded to the Ford Racing oil filter when I did the oil change as well. I appreciate your offer and I will take you up on it. Feel free to give me a shout as if you need anything as well. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I did have to do an adjustable panhard bar/panhard bar brace after I had the Alcoas installed to even out he rear wheels. I've been disappointed when I try to "save time" by having the dealer do something that I can do myself. The oil filter being right over a big metal brace could make it a bit messy, but I read a DIY earlier and had a piece of foil to direct the oil from the filter to the drain pan. nshttpd Posted July 29, 2013 Report Share Posted July 29, 2013 I bought my GT500 from Sandy Springs Ford so maybe they like me a little better, but have gotten both the first and second oil change there (first one was free since I bought it there they said) without any issues. Went up there last weekend to have the alignment checked out (it was pulling to the right) and the steering wheel wasn't straight so they fixed that and the alignment. Service writer even made sure to ask me if there were any UCA additions or suspension mods to it "since I know some people like to upgrade them" before starting. YMMV, IANAL, etc. etc. -steve p.s. black 2012 GT500 w/ stripe delete over in the East Snob area. There is someone else with a blue one with white stripes around these neck of the woods and I've seen a convertible driving around here and there too. The first time they fixed the problem the second time not so much, I still need to get it back there but working 6 days a week out of town makes that hard. My second oil change last week involved me taking my car back to have them drain some oil out. They put 8 quarts in. I always check my oil after all oil changes for any of my cars. I got home checked it and it was overfilled. Called the dealer ss and they said to bring it back. I did and spent another hour there arguing with them on the amount of oil. Finally after showing them the book they agreed. They were looking at the wrong line on the chart! The next day I got a call from an automated service questionnaire. I said I was dissatisfied. The next morning got a call from the service manager and he asked why I was not satisfied, and of course I told him the whole story. I then told him they did not even offer me a credit for the $9.00/qt. oil that was not needed that I paid for. Or the time and gas back and forth 2 times. Its not the money just some consideration. He finally offered me a free oil change and said he would mail me something. Its been 10 days and nothing, and now another survey for Ford is in my inbox. My only point in this make sure you know how much oil and check it. Most of these people do not know. I will call the service manager and give him another chance before I complete he Ford survey. Always keep in mind that things like Oil changes are most often given to the most inexperienced dufus in the shop! Always double and triple check their work before accepting the car. WJinLV Posted August 16, 2013 Report Share Posted August 16, 2013 Got my first change in Vegas at 1450mi. Dealer offered me 2 free changes when purchasing the car. I asked if I could just take the oil and filter to do myself, but they wouldnt do it. So I asked for the SVT specialist, spotted him $20 and asked him if I could watch. No problem. He did a great job, put foil on cross member so dripping oil stayed clear. 8 1/2 qts of full synthetic and handed me the extra 1/2 qt to take home. All in all good experience.
