Shelbyville
If I remember correctly, these are "direct" injected engines as opposed to "port" injected? Since a "port" engine sprays the fuel on the intake valve it helps to keep the valve clean. Has anyone had the heads off and seen what the intake valves look like on these engines? If, in fact, the valves are gunked up would a separator prevent this from happening? And as a followup, if a separator is installed on a "dirty" engine will it eventually clean up on its own or should a part of the separator installation include taking apart the intake system and running it thru the parts washer? 89Saleen215
The oil separator is part of the pcv system which sends an oily mist to the top of the s/c and mixes with the incoming fresh air. It then travels thru the s/c rotors, then the intercooler, and finally the rest of the intake path to the valve and combustion chamber. Adding an oil separator to a dirty engine will not clean these areas up.
Shelbyville
So to really do it right, you should disassemble all these parts and hit the parts washer tank, correct?
Freak
If I remember correctly, these are "direct" injected engines as opposed to "port" injected? If you're refering to the GT500 in your sig, you're remembering incorrectly. The 5.4 is NOT direct injection.
mullens
Oil has no purpose whatsoever in the intake tract. Hence the separator.
Shelbyville
Sure would have been nice if they were there from the get-go. Then all this would be a moot point. In the good old days we just ran a hose from the valve cover down to the road.
