Damn Jer, there goes my plan of selling my old hood as an extremely rare, discontinued, very limited availability hood to fund my retirement... :hysterical2:

That is a good price for anyone needing or wanting one.

Good thing I have a shed to store my old hood, as it looks like I'll be keeping it for a while now. :hysterical:

The techs here have told me it does.

Just wondering if this hood will fit a 07 GT 500. Also can it be cut out to be made functional? Thanks and good day.

It is slightly too short for the GT500 fascia. Yes, it could be cut out to function like our Deep Draw hood. Jer

Also with the deep draw hood what makes it not fit on an 07 GT 500. Sorry for the many questions but I have always liked this hood in its form and function and would really like to purchase one. Especially at the current price. I was running a Tiger Racing hood but it began to crack in many sections so I had to take it off. Have a great day.

Correct. Although non GT500 hoods will bolt on to a GT500 body they do not look right being shorter than a GT500 hood.

I don't recall anyone ever test fitting a CS6 hood onto a GT500 body so perhaps there could also be clearance issues with the strut tower brace and SC.

You know, I was interested in buying the GT-H hood along with the Deep Draw hood but when I went to check out the shipping quote was nearly $400. Seriously, to send two hoods from the north side of Vegas to the west end of Vegas. Two hoods for $800 and add $400 for shipping makes it too steep to go ahead.

Now if I could order both hoods and just pick them up at Shelby, then I'd go for them. Can I do this...... Jer?

Is it possible to arrange a test fit? Thanks and good day.

Sure. Give me a call in advance, we'll arrange it.

Have your washer nozzles, etc.... disconnected, and bring a ratchet set.

You mean shorter from glass to nose? If so, I never knew that...

Jer,

Probably already been asked, but besides finish and paint, how much (if any) fitment issues need to be addressed? Is it pretty much remove old and bolt on new, or will grinding/sanding be required to make panel lines and what not, line up properly?

I only ask because I'm a DIY kind of person!

It is NOT a "remove and replace" operation, it takes prep and alignment.

As you'd imagine, it's different for every car. Most people don't realize how much "play" there is in the front fenders of these cars, they are moved around to align with the hood. In addition, shims can be used to adjust the height at the cowl. The actual finishing of the hood requires sanding, etc.... but nothing time and patience can't overcome. Of course, bodywork requires an eye and talent, so there are no guarantees everyone can do it! And if you sand too much and thin out the gelcoat, you'll make the surface too porous, and it won't hold paint properly, air pockets will form. My recommendation is to buy two hoods to save on shipping: 1 to experiment on, and 1 to take to a body shop later... LOL...

Jer, the sanding and painting I'm having done by a reputable body shop, I was just curious about the fitment part. I know they aren't stamped out like our OEM hoods, but are the GTH hoods consistent dimensionally?

My plan was to work with the shop and take the hood and car in for a day of test fitting, then leave the hood for finishing. (I prefer taking the car home to avoid the inevitable shop overspray, dust, etc., plus, since I still have the orginal hood, I can continue to drive!)

I'm skeptical about that, just because it's a hand-laid fiberglass hood.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I received my hood today and besides being completely filthy and a few small paint chips it is actually in 10 times better shape than the one I originally received with my CS6 package.

What I find very strange however is the hood is already painted performance white.

I thought at first it was a different process as the original hoods were grey primer but where the white paint is chipped, there is grey underneath and it has a few light coverage spots under the hood and it is grey.

So my question is, how did SAI wind up with a CS6 hood painted performance white ??

The other question is was this a random selection hood as I thought I had the only performance white CS6 so it would be really strange if I got shipped a random white hood out of a bunch of grey ones.

Some of the hoods were prepped in bright white gelcoat instead of gray. Be sure the "filth" (sorry about that, BTW) isn't playing tricks on you.

Underneath the hood has large spots of grey blocks as if it was sitting on something when it was sprayed, any gelcoat I've seen is usually very consistent top and bottom however, it could be this particular process.

Mine looks exactly as you describe. Minor chipping at the hinge corners and some scuffing on the upper surface, but nothing that can't easily be fixed. It's also heavier than I imagined, but a very nice piece of fiberglass!
