buffalotr8
Hi everyone, I have a 2007 GT500 coupe with 13,000 Km, which I bought last August. I haven't taken it on any type of long road trip until Sunday. I had a lot of thunk, thunk, thunk, from the front and rear end as I went over pavement strips and frost heaves and I have been chalking it up to the nature of the beast. I am wondering what you guys have done as far as suspension upgrades to "help" with this problem, if there is a way to help with it. Up where I am we have tons of bad roads to the extreme weather from the winters. Thanks as usual!
2007tungstenGT500
obviously you should get under the vehicle and inspect everything to make sure nothing is loose. however, i think that is probably normal? it might depend on what kind of car you are used to driving. if you formerly drove a lexus sedan, this thing will sound like a bucket of loose bolts. when i first bought my s197 mustang, i was very surprised by how much drive-train noise i was hearing (clutch, drive shaft, shifter linkage, etcetera). since then i have installed a lot of dynamat material around much of the trannsmission tunnel on my GT500 and with a louder exhaust setup i don't notice it anymore. Secondo
Stock suspension or lowered? The original tires are loud and hard.

Secondo
Change tires. Stock suspension is as soft as you're going to get without putting Mustang GT parts on it. Changing the tires will greatly improve your comfort. I've read that Continental Extreme Contact and Michelin Pilot tires are quiet and smooth. The stock goodyears are hard and loud. Maybe others can chime in with their experiences with replacement tires.
cormy
Yeah, I've had the car for about 3 months now, it still has the original tires and on PA roads I really feel every crack and bump in the roads here (which are a lot). I also feel the lub lub lub when driving on nice flat roads!
buffalotr8
That's great guys, I appreciate the help. The previous owner barely drove the car and the tires are in really good shape. Time to smoke them off and get some new ones at the end of the season!

2007tungstenGT500
be careful on those stock tires though. they are hard, and in my opinion, not safe on these cars. i nearly wrecked twice when i had the originals on because they broke loose so easily. once passing another car and once on the highway accelerating at 70+mph! cormy
True. Plus the original Goodyears are coming up on 5+ years being on the cars..
msr1011
I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my stock wheels. Had to go with a 285/35 in the rear and 255/45 in the fronts. 100% better and safer than the crappy Goodyears!
2010KonaBlueGT
Stock suspension and stock tires. I have the 18" KR winged boot F-1's on my car and I get that really bad. If I drop the air pressure down to 20psi, about 90% of it goes away. I thought it was all of the suspension work I did to it but I put the wheels/tires on at the same time and since lowering the air pressure pretty much does away with it, I have to believe it's the tires and not the suspension. buffalotr8
That's good to hear guys, it was a stretch of highway I have driven thousands of times in other vehicles, but the first time with the shelby and I couldn't believe how much noise there was.
