HyperStangs
Well, just have to vent a bit... driving down the freeway this morning, pretty much same old commute in my GT500. I generally drive a BIT over the speed limit, but not hot rodding at all. Trailing behind a delivery truck of some sort, when suddenly brake lights everywhere!! Im on the binders hard to make space between me and the truck and to figure out what's up. From over the truck I see a HOOD mid air.... the truck does not take any evasive action and Im still on the brakes. The hood scoops under the front of the truck in front of me and then SHOOTS straight up behind his wheels like a wall in front of me. I know I'm about to hit it and make a slight correction to the right to avoid a head-on. It lands feet in front of me and takes a bounce, as it does my hood clips under it with just the edge of the bumper making contact, then tosses it up OVER my car and it lands on the edge of my wing. I pull over fast, get out and go directly back to make sure its out of the road. The owner of the beater Chevy looks disheveled and in disbelief, as am I. Im hot at first, but the guy starts apologizing and hands me his insurance card. I haven't examined the damage yet, so I snap a shot of his card with my phone and go back to survey. Unbelievable, the scuff on the front is nearly nothing and although the rear wing took a pretty good knock I feel really lucky so I wave to the guy and drive off counting my blessings. Still in shock..... and thinking what MIGHT have happened.

joebob948
I had a situation a few years back--driving the interstate in an older Ford and a truck in front of me runs over a metal rear bumper and SHOOTS this thing back at me!!!! I thought for sure that it was going to go through my windshield!!! Fortunately, it bounces off my hood and cracks very slightly my windshield!!!!!!!!! No where to go - thought I was going to be a goner!!!!!!!!! Approx $ 4,000 worth of damage!!!!!!!! Used up one of my nine lives that day!!!!!!!!! Bill Hamilton
About a year ago I was behind a pickup truck on the highway when he ran over what looked like a 4x8 sheet of plywood. As he rolled over it, it stood straight up and I hit it straight on going 70 mph. It shattered into a thousand pieces. It was a sheet of presswood that had fallen off the back of a truck. It looked like I flew through a cloud of debris in the rearview mirror as pieces flew everywhere. I had this really sick feeling in the pit of my stomach as I pulled over first chance I got and checked out the damage. Only thing I could find was a small quarter-inch scratch near the driver's side fog light. I couldn't believe that was all the damage I could find. I buffed it out and you couldn't tell it had ever happened. Good luck with yours.

MY500SS
Thank goodness no injuries and you didn't over react with steering wheel/brakes and make things worse.

vandy09
I feel your pain. I took a big rubber bed liner mat to the grill doing 80. People need to secure their load. Ive taken more damage in my car than i care to count. After the mat cracked my bumper i stopped driving her as much. Glad u are ok. Oh and i would have paid to see the drive thru the plywood deal. I bet it was a sight
Rodders
Good points and stories above...even when you can see the road in front of you it can be littered by debris, but you follow behind a Truck, big van, pickup, etc. you cannot see in front of you and hence why I try not to follow trucks unless absolutely necessary plus they like to throw rock chips at you too.
