PRESS RELEASE

Detroit, Michigan, USA – In a statement released today by Ford Motor

Company,

Vice President of design and chief creative officer J Mays announced that

beginning in October 2013 The Ford Motor company will re-introduce an

updated model of the iconic 427 Shelby Cobra.

Since the early 1960s through the end of their production in 1967, the

Shelby Cobra has represented the pinnacle of high performance American sports cars.

In honor of the passing of longtime legendary car designer Carroll Shelby, Ford

will be producing a faithful update to the original “Corvette-beater”.

The new super lightweight, 2-passenger, open-top roadster will boast a 1100

horsepower supercharged 5.8 liter engine, 7-speed transmission, advanced

computer controlled handling system, and Brembo brakes forward and aft, all

contained in a 90 inch wheelbase. Initial computer analysis and wind tunnel

data suggest that the top speed for the new roadster will easily exceed 200 MPH.

While many production details are still in process, Mays stated that all

engines will be produced at Ford’s Romeo Engine plant in Romeo, Michigan. The new

chassis will be produced and finished entirely at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan

plant. Production numbers will be limited to just 500 vehicles per year.

The new vehicles will be fully optioned with front and side impact air bags,

antilock brakes, high performance audio systems, air-conditioning, cruise

control, and Ford’s new advanced forward-looking lane sensing driver’s

assist.

Track enthusiasts will enjoy a three-position ride selection functionality

for a firmer and more stable on-track experience.

Potential customers are invited to visit their local Ford dealer on Monday

April1st to place their order. Deposits of 5% will be accepted and a production

order tag number will be issued. Customers can expect the new 2014 Shelby Cobra to

arrive in dealerships by December 2013, and expect an initial MSRP of just

$135,000.

How do you spell H*O*A*X?

This would have been an April Fools joke...

There is no way a modern 2-seat roadster that even closely resembles a Cobra would get anywhere close to passing CAFE and safety regs. The air bags will totally surround the car.

On the other hand for $135K I'll take 10.

Mazda has the Miata, why can't Ford do a Cobra, after all, it is a little bigger then the Miata?

Well, because I just have to know for sure, I am checking with a friend who owns a high volume Ford store and who also owns a Ford GT. He tends to be on top of such things (he sure was with the Boss). I'm not holding my breath however.

Really? Are some of you guys still believing this? This was an APRIL FOOLS DAY JOKE. I've seen it in one form or another for the past many years. You know, the station wagon Mustang, the Cobra Roadster, and I've seen this Cobra one a few times.

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.

I knew what it was after reading the first sentence.

I've been around the Internet for a long long time but didn't think you needed YEARS of 'Net experience to know that April 1st is called "April Fools Day" for a reason...

Sheesh,

Phill

Yeah, well in my defense as a sucker, April 1st is known as "April Fool's Day", not April 2nd. At least the practical joker can do it on the right day!

nah....I'm gonna pass after all.....I got my eyes set on the Shelby Maverick ;-) Maverick-Shelby-spoof_zpse6f219c0.jpg

Man, a good friend of mine has a Maverick Grabber sitting in her driveway, undriven for decades. It's still in GREAT shape but could use a good resto. 302ci, 9" rear end and I *think* a 4-spd trans.

Grabber Blue with black stripes.

I wish she'd sell it to me...CHEAP.

Ford will not do another "halo car" that beckons back to the 60's. Too many regs - all of safety, emissions and mileage - like the Ford GT.

Now if they really wanted a "sleeper" they should bring back the Galaxy or Fairlane 500. Put a 427 (7L) in one of those like the 'Vette.

But forget about a GT40 or Cobra look alike. Too many issues.
