Juanrijos
Hello, Just got back from Afghanistan in Dec and decided to treat myself. Bought an '08 shelby gt500 and received the car on 27 Feb 2013. Car has only 28k miles! From day one the clutch has been really stiff (hard)and hard to go into 1st and reverse sometimes, so i started reading the forums. I found out that there has been many similar issues like mine. My power tranny warranty is about to run out in April 2013. My question is: Does a car have to be under warranty in order for a TSB to be done and if so can the power/train warranty do it? Any help eould be great!!! I hate that I just bought the car and would have to py out of pocket to fix this.

treeve
Check out the thread from Grabber for information about clutch issues: http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php/topic/77837-clutch-drag-tsb-covered-until/ I had mine repaired by Galpin Ford in the Los Angeles area. They provided great service and I would recommend them.
ingram4868
We now know what was happening to the 2007-2009 clutch/flywheels. Grabber has listed each and every part to make these cars an absolute dream to drive. Just so you know, I used Grabber's list and bought every part including fluids. I took them to our local performance shop and they changed it all out. The car is so much more enjoyable to drive now.
Juanrijos
Onebadbone, I am military, you are welcome! I did not purchase extended warranty on it but plan on doing so even though they told me warranty would not cover the clutch. Treeve, Did you paid out of pocket when they fixed it at ur Ford dealer or did warranty cover? (What warranty) Ingram4868, I plan on buying the list of parts listed by Grabber as he seems to make a lot of sense! If u dont mind me asking how much did u pay the local performance shop for the installation and how long did they take? Did warranty cover anything? ingram4868
Juanrijos, My shop charged a little over 5 hours at $85.00 p/hr. I also had the differential grown when making slow turns so they installed a Shelby differential cover and Royal Purple oil with Ford friction modifier. While the tranny was out I had them install a FRPP short throw shifter. It really does shorten the throw between 1-2 and 2-3.

F044422A
I bought my '07 last September with 3,500 miles and got the clutch replaced for no charge under the TSB. I agree, this makes the car much easier to drive.
Torch Red Texan
I agree to take it to the dealer. Thank you for your service. Great choice on a vehicle. Got any photos? Hope you get to enjoy her.
vandy09
I had the same issue at 25k miles. Grabber is the man!!! I took it to a stealership that supports our local car club. It went from a "oh yea no problem, ur car will be done in 2 days " to me fighting for 3 weeks with them. My car is stock, never seen a track and i had to push it all the way to corporate to get her fixed. Also abuddy who is a sales manager backing me up helped. My advice, find a dealer with a good service department. Read reread then go read grabbers thread again. Print every one of the tsbs out. They tried to tell me the tsb was for the trans not the clutch (the current one is for the trans) i asked what the root problem was. He claimed he couldn't see old tsbs. He was shocked when i slapped them on his desk. Be nice but firm. They "should" help you out Good luck, welcome home. I'm about to head back to al udeid
mvic1518
I bought a 2008 a couple months ago with low miles (1003) I have the same problem. I have put about 650 miles on it and I thought the clutch problem might go away with more miles but it hasn't. I read on the different sites that this is a common problem and decided to call a SVT Dealership in Walnut Creek, Ca. I talked to Tim the service director. He couldn't have been more helpful and had a tech take a test ride with me. The tech has dealt with this problem many times and was very helpful. He agreed there was a problem with the clutch and we talked about the warranty with Tim. He took my information and said give him a couple of days and he would contact Ford to see what he could do. I was treated like I have been a customer there for years and it was my very first visit. The dealership was about 60 miles from my house, well worth the trip. I will post an update as soon as I hear something.
kenmath23
i am getting nervous about this, I have had my 08 since new in late 2007, and I have had no issues (7000 miles). My extended warranty will be running out in about a year and a half and I don't want to get stuck paying for this if it is just a matter of time. My dealer says he will only work on it once it goes bad. Very frustrating to know this is a problem and I can't get it fixed.
Juanrijos
Thank you guys for all the replies!!! It definitely sucks dealing with this! I took the car to the Ford dealership yesterday and they did determine that the clutch was bad but they are saying that this is not covered under warranty....my car's power and tranny runs out next month anyways and i haven't purchased an extended warranty because they say the warranty will not cover the clutch repair!!! How do I fight this??? Do I just print out the TSBs and take that to them? Who should I call that can help or point me in the right direction? vandy09
Explain to them that you understand that a "warranty " does not cover a wear item such as brakes tires or a clutch. That's not what you are arguing. What the warranty does cover is defective parts and worksmanship. Hell you might even ask them IF the warrenty covers defective drive train parts. Explain to them you have no issue with the clutch. Your issue is with the nodular iron flywheel that for used until mid production of 09. The same inferior part that FORD ENGINEERS determined to be the cause of clutch drag and the transmission to not fully unload. Explain to them you want and expect them to replace said defective, warped part and all the damage that was caused by that part. The simple truth the the clutch would be fine if the flywheel wasn't warped. Makesure you have the tsbs with you to show them that ford identified this problem. Like i said mine was a fight that didn't need to happen. The service manager told me it was pushed to a ford corporate level engineer who's response was "yeah we know about this problem why doesn't behave his car back" Good Luck sir. I feel your pain. Mine when 2 weeks before my son was born. I didn't have a lot of extra jack laying around to drop on a clutch.

mvic1518
UPDATE: Tim from Walnut Creek Ford called me the next day and said he contacted Ford with my information. Ford agreed to cover it under the power train warranty. I was shocked it was that easy and am very thankful to Walnut Creek Ford. It is there now and should be done tomorrow.
