Optimum CAI

I am adding the 2.4" VMP pulley and the Cobrajet 65MM throttle body. Which CAI is the best match for this combo? I am assuming a minimum of a 130mm diameter MAF - or is my logic flawed??

Thanks!

Justin at VMP should ba able to help you with that.

Just get the JLT 127mm intake but wait 2 weeks since Jay is redesigning the air filter so you won't get the ram air effect. Hope your not going with the oval throttle body since it has that hanging idle problem.

Do you have the oval TB? Do you have a hanging problem? If not then why are you talking about something you know nothing about. I have the oval TB and 127mm CF JLT CAI. I don't have any problems with it, and absolutely love the combo.

I'm getting a 2014 and was thinking of getting cold air I like to know how you make out ??

The 2010 and up already have a CAI. Unless you're modding to the point you max it out I'd leave the stock one on (though you may want to get the resonator delete).

I went with the dual 65mm round port TB - what is the hanging idle problem? Are you talking about the monoblade throttle body?

.

The mono-blade T/B which usually has issues is the Whipple mono-blade, which Whipple doesn't recommend for street use.

.

The twin 65mm T/B ( M-9926-CJ65 ) flows 1517cfm, MSRP - $ 689.95

The " oval " T/B ( M-9926-SCJ ) ( 65mm x 147mm ) flows 1797cfm, MSRP - $ 679.00

Both T/B's are mfg. by Accufab for FRPP.

I had the twin 65mm & it was great with no issues.

Currently running the mono-blade for nearly a year with out issues with a Whipple 123mm zip tube & 124.7mm MAF

Regardless of Iceman not having any problems thats great for him but a lot of people have complained about having a hanging idle with the ford racing mono blade. Again its kind of a hit or miss kind of thing. Some people have problems with lund tunes some don't. Some people have problem with 127mm JLT intake some don't. Many have had complaints about the monoblade throttle body not because it isn't a good unit but because the tune isn't good and some have not. I have heard no one ever complain about the twin TB so if it was me I'd rather have the product that has zero complaints and forgo that extra 10 hp increase the oval one provides.

But talk with Jay at JLT about the 127mm intake. He has done testing and is convinced the stalling/surging problem that intake has caused with some people is all in the tune. But as I said he said he is redoing the filter to smooth out the airflow so the MAF isn't going all crazy. Jay is a good guy and always trying to improve his product. If you don't want to risk it then get the res delete with airaid filter. Again the stock CAI is still really good it may not be worth the hassle for the extra 20-30hp unless maybe it improves throttle response which I think this car could use a bit improvement in which the TB and intake would do, in addition to the tune.

Thought you were speaking from experience, then noticed your " mods ", you've never had the twin 65mm or the mono-blade !! But I do agree with some of your above post.......As far as gains in hp over the 65mm, between 8 - 15 depending on the tune. ( I have run both )

I post on several sites & have read many threads with " mono-blade " issues. In every case where it was an FRPP unit, the issues were proved to be in the tune. I also have seen threads regarding the Whipple mono-blade where the problem was in the T/B.

Oh no not personal experience at all. I go by what I have read from others who have already done it. I'm actually too scared to try a lund tune as of now and on top of that it would void my warranty. I'll wait for him to get everything worked out with it but when he does I'll get the 127mm intake and 65 twin FRPP TB and possibly a 10% OD pulley not sure about the last one because according to Van you have to turn down the boost if you drive the car in winter which I do. I like the install and forget mods. I may just take it to be dyno tuned instead since VMP is not too far.

Just talked to Jay @JLT - he is including a new filter design with the 127mm CF CAI - so I ordered that set up with the new filter. The new filters will not be in until next week - so he is holding my order till then.

See I told you. Now if you have any problems with surging or stalling you will know its in the tune. But hopefully you are one of those who have zero issues.
