axo250
I was in the market for new mufflers a few months back and finally pulled the trigger on a set of Borla S-Type Axle-Backs. I did a lot of research on YouTube trying to find some decent clips and had trouble finding everyday type driving. It seems like everyone is prone to showing clips from inside a garage or at WOT, which tells me little except that they are loud. So for any of you in the market for an exhaust system, this video may help. All in all, I love the Borlas. They have the large 4.5" chrome tips and have a deeper sound. I was extremely worried that an aftermarket exhaust would lose the exceptional tone from the factory, however I was amazed to hear a more improved tone with the added volume I desired. Borla has done a great job making the exhaust fairly quite while cruising yet moderately loud while giving it some throttle! Its not the loudest system on the market, but gets plenty loud enough for my purposes. It is definitely a big step up from the factory and well worth the money. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market! Edited December 11, 2012 by axo250
IngotSilverSnake
Great sound. Thanks for posting. This is the system I am going to in the near future. The sound is perfect and the 4.5" tips are awesome.
Ezareth
I have the same set intalled on my 2011 and I don't regret my purchase at all. Worth every penny and then some. For anyone worried about an obnoxious sound don't. These muffler only enhance the same sound these cars make.
05mustangman
Have had my Borla Stingers installed for about two months and these are by far the best mufflers I have had on the car. And this is my forth set of mufflers. Nice and deep exhaust tone and haven't noticed any drone. But they are pretty loud.
THXCHS
Yep this is the setup I have decided on after some research also. The Borla S-Type seems the best balance of aggressivness without obnoxiousness. Now I just need to pull the trigger. Can I ask where you purchased axo250 and how much you paid? Did you install yourself? I assume it was pretty straight forward?

axo250
THXCHS- I bought them from Lethal Performance and they were drop shipped from Borla. I don't recall the cost but they met the cheapest price I found on the Internet. Seems somewhere around $700 but don't quote me. Yes I did the install myself and took my time putting them on. Being a perfectionist, I had to bend one hangar a small amount to have both mufflers dead on. I recommend tac welding the clamps on to both sides of the pipe. They don't move and are dead on now. MJN- I still have cats and no drone at all. It's amazing how quiet the car is while cruising yet how loud it can get! Borla did a fantastic job. MJN
I have the S on mine also but would like maybe a bit more sound out of it just not sure if run catless it would be too much. Then again a while back someone had a 13 with Borla headers and full exhaust without cats and sounded on the internet damn good I thought, but he removed cause was to loud wich I don't want either. So much stress just over exhaust lol.
axo250
Yeah I understand the concern. It's a matter of personal taste. I will leave my car catted but will likely put headers on. My experience is the non-catted cars with louder mufflers starts taking away from the quality. The Borla touring or factory mufflers probably would have been the best non-catted setup. MJN
See, that would be what I really in the end I want to do is headers with catted H-pipe, but keep reading that get up there in HP and cats don't hold up. I defently want more HP.
axo250
That's interesting. I wonder how an increase in horsepower would hurt cats. Not saying it does not, I just need to think about that one a bit. Anyhow, I do realize the cats restrict the flow and don't allow the full benefit of headers. I supposed we could consider non-catted but with resonators. Same effect but not as restrictive.
05mustangman
You running cats? Get any drone? I am running the Kooks Longtube headers with the High flow catted X-pipe. It is a nice really deep tone and there hasn't been any drone I've noticed. When I'm cruising about 75-80 the exhaust is pretty loud but nothing really obnoxious. Think I'm with everyone as well going to do the S-Type as I don't want an overly loud ride. My Cobra was like that and it got old on long drives. verlyn12
One of the reasons we are really excited to attend our first Bash is to see and hear first hand some of the mods that are mentioned in the forum. We are looking for the rumble sound but not the roar so hopefully we will be able to find what we are looking for after hearing the different installations! So far it looks good, but still snow and salt and more on the way on the roads here. Did the install over the winter and have not been able to test it out yet. Trust me I going crazy wanting to try it out. As far as the install was fairly stright foward and not real hard, my wife helped and was nice specially with smaller hands in the tighter areas. Took me a bit on how to relase the tab on the pins cause could not see the best, in fact I broke the little bent safty on one and will have to replace. The shifter was a tad tricky on how to shove out the hole but other then them little things was not a bad project at all and was all done just on Race Ramps. IA Shelby
I have the Borla S Catback. Sound similar to the axelbacks but with a little deeper sound IMO. Expensive but worth the money.
