MARZ4ME
Just bought a Shelby American GT 500 shift knob (blue) and before doing anything stupid I thought I'd ask if anyone has done this and their input. The car is a 2011. Does it just unscrew? They gave me a small bag of nuts and stuff.
Afdharley
It does unscrew. However, it's on there TIGHT. People have had success with heat from a hair dryer and then using a strap wrench. Take your time and good luck.
MarcInUtah
I bought a strap wrench at Autozone and it worked perfectly and was easy to remove. I believe the nuts and bolts are your "adaptors" for the new shift knob to screw onto the shifter.
MARZ4ME
Thanks guys. The next stop is the autoparts store for a strap wrench.
treeve
Do you also have the "shift boot retainer"? It is available at Shelby Performance Parts and Champion Mustang.
jnf
Did my 13. The ball came right off without the strap wrench. Make sure you get the boot retainer to fill the gap between the bottom of the ball and the top of the boot.
