I just purchased this shelby and i have no Idea what oil was used prior. It has a motorcraft filter so I figure it was done at the dealer? I live in the high desert of Arizona where temps can go to zero in winter and 100+ in summer. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for the weight of oil and whether i should use a full syn or not.(semi)?. i was thinking of going to a 5-30 full syn product. Thanks for your input.

I'm in Southern Arizona and I'm running the factory recommended weight of 5W-20 oil right now (I'm using full synthetic Valvoline) in my SGT. But I'm only using the 5W-20 for the cooler winter months. For the extreme heat of summer down here where we can have 118 degree days I'm planning on going with a full synthetic 5W-30 oil for those times.

Mobil One has received a lot of bad press over the last couple of years for not meeting the series iva tests which lead to excessive wear. Other synthetics have done much better. Actually almost all the synthetics have done better. I would use the Motorcraft filter. But amsoil, pennzoil, royal purple, and castrol synthetics may be better than the old Mobil One.

I think amsoil is a good oil but I have first hand experience that it does not last on extended oil drains as claimed. This was in a fleet service and it did not work for us. And I also tired of the limited availability and having to pay a higher price plus shipping. For that reason I prefer to buy a good synthetic at Wally World or the local auto parts stores.
