Where to winter in Florida?

Thinking of leaving cold snowy Maine for the winters! Looking for suggestions where others have bought homes in areas that have 55+ communities that have lots of activities and have local Cruise nights nearby. Not really looking to purchase another big home but would he happy in a community of doublewides with a garage or car port. Getting tired of the cold weather and putting my car up for 6 months!

I have been to this area before and it is pretty neat and a nice area.

Treasure Island near St Pete. NOT St Pete Beach or Pass a Grille. Or anywhere near this spot. Madeira Beach and places North. Spend some time in this area before deciding. I am in the process. Condos are unbelievably cheap. ie < 50K. Small and individual. Quite the opposite of The Villages establishments that seem to appeal to most people. I spend a month or so in Treasure Island every year. Quiet and no traffic. Grew tired of Lauderdale and Naples congestion. And when I go to The Beach, I am sorry but I want to be on THE BEACH. Otherwise I might as well stay home.

Try Century Villiage in the Pembroke Pines, FL area... This is a city within the Hollywood, FL area towards the Sawgrass expressay. It is a community that only allows 50+ with several daily activites, and close to all the action from Miami, Fl to West Palm Beach, less than 30 mins to all...

Don't know if it's to far, but also look at Cape Coral, which is around the Ft. Myers/Naples/Sanibel area... A lot of forclosures in this area, as many people bought for rental properties, and the market was just not their and tanked. From what I have seen you can find houses from a low as 24 cents on the dollar, crazy!!!

I prefer cold and dying overtaxed states...hey, at least it's not too crowded!

How do you figure, FL has not state tax?? That's why most Athletes and people with money carry their main residence here and actually live somewhere else....
