1st Detail question

I agree with all that's been said. peoples detail products are as personal as the brand of beer they like. I was sponsored by Meguiars at one time and their high end products work great. I have used probably 10-12 different brands including most all mentioned.and find them all to have good products. You might find a good paste wax from Meg's and a good quick detail from The Chemical Guys etc. I have used The Chemical Guys products for a couple of years now and feel you get great quality for the dollar.I simply haven't tried anything that I don't like from them. They also have killer deals on microfiber towels buffing pads and other needs etc. They are the manufacturer of products for many of the other guys and private label for them such as ADAMS.

Wow... A detailing thread and didn't see it?

Yes, your plan sounds good. My regimen goes like this:

- Wash with microfiber mitt (two bucket method...)

- clay bar

- polish/sealant

- wax

I use Poorboys products. If you are interested, I can give you the specific products I use. But whatever you choose, PLEASE use the best microfiber towels--ones that are specific for their intended use. For example, I have microfiber towels for buffing, polishing, quick detailing, some specific for glass, etc.

Anyway... Farmboys post above is dead on. It's about process not product. The only thing I would change is making the polish/sealant 2 different steps. I'm not a fan of products that polish and seal at the same time.

For the poster that thinks you are wrong to clay the car, I think he is dead wrong. Go to any detailing forum an ask that question. Even brand new cars get contaminants on them. Rail dust in transport is one. And clay the whole car. Windows included. Don't clay the roof?!?? Id like to know what he was thinking. Maybe he was on drugs to think contaminants don't get there.

And if you asking what products I use? They don't call me Peter Adams for nothing... :hysterical2:

I have given detail clinics and attend them regularly.

And with out a doubt you must use quality microfiber towels. This is the biggest mistake most folks do. They put all the hard work into correcting their cars using cheap towels from china. Here's a fail proof test for your towels. Take a blank cd. Rub it with the towel. If it leaves micro-scratches on the cd. It will do the same to your car. Adams microfibers will not scratch the cd. Same for Griots. Those are the ones I use. But am sure there are others.

Good luck and have fun with your new ride!!! :happy feet:

Hey jersygator.."".no drugs taken here"".....a new vehicle should be wet sanded/or light compound used to remove the ORANGE FLAKE from the manufactures paint... Takes many many hours to do this process with the right material and polishers....AND $$$.....To think that a new car is covered by GRIT from being in the real world for WHAT 2 /3days of transport is a little overboard....Vehicles that sit on dealers lots for months are usually DE-OXIDATED befor being DETAILED for the customer/s...There is alot of difference between a BRAND NEW DELIVERY and one that has sat for weeks/months on the lot/s....I AGREE with the CLOTH/S used...Most damage is done after all the cleaning is done by waxing with inferior CLOTHS......We use 3 different body shops in our area and all agree to use the right COMPOUND and POLISHERS to get the best RESULTS....You should have mentioned that more and more owners leave alot of marks from the CLAY BAR...WHY?? Because of inproper use and INFERIOR PRODUCTS....... OH ..you also forgot to MENTION that Vehicles should have a CHEMICAL BATH before starting any of the above workkk....

I agree with Peter Adams...clay bar is a must when you buy a new car it's amazing what crap gets on the cars paint from the factory to the dealer

then I do the clay bar twice a year after that.

Yes I know one should color sand a car first, if you want that "show car" shine. But that isn't a task for the novice tat is asking for a first detail. And the true way to tell if a car needs clay is to do a baggie test. Putting your hand in a plastic baggie and lightly rubbing the surface. You can feel and hear contaminants. And I guess claying can be a little hazardous if you don't use enough detail spray to lubricate it and or allow contaminants to remain in the clay. So all good points... I'm not familiar with chemical baths. So you got me there.

Glad we agree on the towels! B)

I have had great results for years using Maguire products. About claying a new car, I ordered a new F150 a few years ago and picked it up the day it was delivered to the dealer. It had terrible "rail dust" or something and I clayed it a week later and it came slick as a whistle. Highly recommend the clay. I also prefer single application products. No combination products, takes longer but worth it.

The problem is with this product is I can't even buy it to try it. (Precleaner)

"NOTE: Not available for sale in the state of California. Non-CARB compliant"

I guess you are not getting my PMs. If you PM me your Name and Address, I will send you the Pre-Cleaner! UPS looked at the bottle and said no problem with ground shipping.

Start with this one http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-polish-po203.html use a (more aggressive) orange pad or a (less aggresive) white pad

then....

Used this one http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-nano-polish-po-106-fa-finishing-polish.html use a grey, red or blue pad.

Step back and admire, then decide what you are going to use to protect the paint and give depth and shine. Yes it will look EVEN better after do this last step(s).
