5.4 CRANK PROBLEMS

HAS ANYONE HEARD (ROMEO ENGINE PLANT) OF PROBLEMS WITH THE 5.4 CRANKS THAT COULD PUSH BACK PRODUCTION OF THE SHELBY??

Nope, I haven't heard this before. Seems to be a little late in the game to be discovering a problem with the engine internals, doesn't it? Ford isn't exactly a poster-child for efficiency, but this seems even beyond Ford's capabilities for incompetence.

I know who I can ask about this one. Firing off an e-mail right now.

GT Heads - If my source is correct, the Ford GT heads (despite claims to the contrary) are not an entirely new casting. They are the same casting (other than the words "Ford GT") as the '00 5.4L Cobra R casting with +2mm exhaust valve size compared to the 4v Navigator heads, and have larger port volumes.

Another source - http://www.modularfords.com/forums/1996-20...ds-19500-2.html

IF this is the case, the flow values in the following photo should be reasonably accurate for the GT500 heads:

I just put in the question about the other internals. I'm off to my last day of classes, so you all can look forward to some news for Thursday or Friday. I'm only delaying the story to see if we can pin down what components the GT500 will use.

The suspense!

The suspense!

Ya gotta love that 36/36 warranty on a car that blows out nearly 500 HP. That said, I'm not sure I'd do much, if any, modding that would potentially stress compnents. It would be an easy way for them to void the warranty in the event that there IS a bottom end issue.

There ya have it. My 2 cents. :victory:

VNMOUS1,

Check into the Magnuson-Moss Warrantee Act.

Here is a clean copy of it - http://www.granatellimotorsports.com//magnusonmoss.htm

Mr. Lane - THANK YOU, I am waiting with baited breath.

Thanks....I am familiar with the Act. I have had to cite it in an issue with Yamaha. That said, it doesn't keep the manufacturer from claiming that you screwed it up. Unfortunately, in this case one isn't innocent until proven guilty.

Magnusson-Moss didn't help me. In 1998, I fought tooth and nail with Ford, who claimed that my off-road h-pipe created too much torque for the stock T5, resulting in an explosion that caused $1020 in damages. The end result was a warranty that was completely voided, a car that was returned to me in a billion pieces, and nearly $1000 in expenses even finxing it ourselves. Again, in 2003, the dealership tried to tell me that my K&N filter wiped out the mass air meter on my SVT Focus. :nonono: But on that one, I got SEMA involved, and the dealerhsip ended up in a world of shit. :happy feet:

The SVT Engineer in the "Berkley Gas station Video" stated that the heads and internals were from the GT.

This story does seem to have merit. We are sorting through engine photographs now, so full details might not get posted until Friday morning.

I know I speak for a lot of people when I say thanks for the amount of work you put into this forum. You obviously have a busy life, and yet you still manage to find time to keep this effort under control. We do very much appreciate it.
