Swapping Front Rotors on GT500

Here's a question I hope one of you can help with. If I want to swap the front rotors on my GT500 do I need to remove the brake pads from the Brembo Calipers before I pull the caliper or can I just leave the pads in place and pull the caliper with pads as one piece? Will I have any issues with reassembly if I remove the caliper with the pads installed and try to put them back on after I swap the rotors?

 

I know taking the pads out are not a big deal but as I don't plan on changing the pads I thought I could save a step.

 

Note that I am thinking of swapping rotors for track use and the current rotors are not warped or damaged in any way.

No need to remove the pads. But a good point's been raised - you may want to change the pads for a different type anyway.

Thanks for all the replies...a lot of good information and tips...

 

First off the pads I have installed are for track use. They only have three HDPE events on them and limited road use so I did not want to pull them out if I didn't need to.

 

I want to add the brake cooling kit to the car and figured while I had the front end apart I'd try a set of Steeda slotted rotors that I had gotten as a freebie a year back. I am trying to improve the air flow and cooling of the front brakes as much as possible as I seem to build a lot of heat in the front brakes no matter how I try to manage braking. I plan on keeping the stock rotors though as I want the option to switch back if I don't like the slotted set up. I hope to be on the track in two weeks so I'll see how it works.

something to consider, Bear rep told me to remove the dust shield on a set of calipers and rotors I installed. This allows for even airflow. While street applications it may be a non issue, I could see heavy track use they could hinder even airflow on both sides of the rotor. That said, you did indicate that you were going to put cooling kit.

Getting ready for a track event and would like to have a dedicated set of rotors and pads for track use on my '12 GT500. Thinking about a cryo treated set of slotted rotors ($150 each) up front. Plan on leaving the factory rear setup as-is...anyone have any pad recommendations for the fronts?

one thing i learned the hard way is make sure you put the corresponding pad on the rear that goes with the front. otherwise the front does 98% of the stopping istead of 90 and you have glowing front rotors. cool to watch but they fail quick.
