Best Shelby to buy for under $50k?

Hi guys

I hope all is well - It has been approx 2yrs since I sold my last Shelby (06 GTH158) And I am starting to give serious thought to getting back in the game again... So the question is:

In your opinion, What is the best Shelby to buy, new or used for under $50k?

FYI; (I am more of a bone stock buyer, not into serious mods, unless done by SAI, not picky on colors really, must be fully documented etc) - In no particular order, some ideas are:

08-09 GT500KR?

07-09 GT500?

10,11,12 GT500

06 GT-H

GT-C

GT

Or even dare I say it, a Boss 302?

I have been leaning towards a KR if I can find a good, stock, clean, low milege one - From the last couple of weeks of research, Paying ideally high $40's.... Max. Should be possible...

Any thoughts, comments etc would be apppreciated... (I also posted this in the GT500 discussion area)

Thanks

Jon

If it were me, I would want something a little more exclusive or done at SAI, so that knocks out the 07 - 12 GT500's. I think if you want a Shelby I would look at the GT500 KR or one of the more limited SGT's, possibly one of the SAI factory SC'd ones. If buying new I think I'd look at a 2013 Boss302. As Chance.316 said, What do you intend to use it for...street, show or track?

+1 I agree ... just look at what you liked with the GT-H and compare.

I think everyone has overlooked the brand new GTS. V8 version. $37k for premium GT. Add $13k for Shelby to make a curve carven beast.

I absolutely disagree that a Boss would be a better alternative. They are bare bones and more worthy of the road course. Not a DD. The GTS on the other had is a great choice as a DD.

:salute:

The 13' GTS package just came out with added stripe colors too. Pretty good bang for the buck. Check out the" build a GTS" site. I finally am warming up to the look of the new stang,

I wonder if a used 11' GT 350 is under fifty yet. I think that car will be THEE car when this era of Shelbys run is over. I still have not even seen any new GT 350 in person yet.

I'd agree on go with the KR. If not, a 2008 GT/SC convertible. There are maybe 10 of them out there.

A few more than that I think, if so I owned 20% of them :) And both of them Barrett Jackson to boot. But they are a whoot and fun. I think my wife has given me permission to get one of them back.

Good feedback..... No track time, drag etc..

I will use it to commute a couple of days a week, regular weekend spirited driving and general cruising around.. Always well taken care of but def not a garage/show queen either...

I would go for the KR.

On ebay a one owner black KR with 3500 miles sold for $39K with 22 bids. I think the new GT500 with 662hp has really hurt the prices of KR's. Don't pay high 40K's for a KR anymore. The GT-H are a little boring with the auto trans. I like the SGT for well balanced machine that looks great and maybe has hit bottom of the price range. But remember condition, condition, condition is everything. I saw a white 07 SGT in a parking lot that spent it's life outside and that car was a mess. The stripes were so bad that from a distance you didn't know it was a SGT and forget about the interior.

That's true, but just depends how you want it built. I think you could get into a base model 5.0 for $50K, but not if you wanted it supercharged and some of the other goodies on it.

My '08 SGT, 0618, is for sale if you don't mind "stepping down". No SC though. Pretty much stock except for a few items like brakes, headrests, lower grille, etc.

Never seen rain or snow. 8,300+ miles. $33,000.

Don

Forgot one important item, it's an A/T.

Sounds like a good deal. Those cars will be classics some day.

KR would be a great choice but on the other hand a 40th is more exclusive and some have the 725 HP performance option. Also a Boss LS would be a good pick too.

I'll respectfully disagree with that. The Boss has FANTASTIC handling and road manners and I wish it could be my DD. It instills such confidence and control I can't even describe it nor would I understand it unless I drove it myself. As for "bare bones" I have recaro seats, sync, AC, Cruise, what else is needed for a DD?

Recently the Executive Editor of Road and Track was asked if he to choose one "Under $100,000" car to drive and trade his current DD what would he chose...his answer the Boss 302.

Then again...your milage my vary!

;-)

I have to agree with JeffisHereToo. While the Boss 302 is not a Shelby it is unlike any car I have ever driven. They could have deleted the radio as well - who needs one when you can listen to that Roadrunner thunder.

Asssuming we are sticking with a Shelby (as that is the OP's title question), I'd advise going with a KR.

I've had a modded GT500, and currently have a GTH and a '12 Boss in the stable, and while I love them all, the KR has that little something extra.

The history, sound, name and look in what is the best looking early new gen Shelby. And if 540hp isn't enough, a quick swap to a TVS for only a few bucks, and you're in the mid 600's...

Plus, and this is a big PLUS, the last pre-title Shelby to come out of SA in Las Vegas.

High $40's seems to be the range for most, with plenty just a tick over 50k (I think that was a bogus eBay item as quoted in post #11, and even if it was legit, one sale does not set the market)

Good luck

Tom
