The SGT Experience

Recommended Posts

Having had some pretty awesome cars in the past really didn't prepare me for owning the SGT! None of my previous vehicles can hold a candle to the amount of attention that the SGT grabs!

Fellow SGT owner, TS member, and enthusiast AndyGJ came onto the island last week, and over coffee we remarked at the kind of things people do when they spot one of our cars!

(Again Andy, it was a real pleasure meeting and greeting you and your "clan"!)

Here's a few of the things we found "common" to SGT gawkers:

1. They pull up behind you at a red light, and in the mirror you can see them mouth the words: "Look at that, a SHELBY!" (This is especially noticeable if you have the sequential tail lights)

2. Dozens of "nice car" compliments from young and old!

3. Dozens of silent "thumbs up" gestures!

4. Park your SGT where you can keep an eye on it and inevitably you'll see people just stop and stare, or sneak a peek inside.

I'm certain we all can relate to this - I wonder if the GT500 folks get the same amount of attention?

I've had all this happen also...got several compliments last weekend. No other car I've owned has caused this!

Sam,

I think my son, Drew, had more fun that both of us combined! After we got the wives and kids to meet each other as well after dinner on Saturday, my son asked me,"Dad...when do we get to see Mr. Sam again?" The youngest one, Davis, is still mad at me that he didn't go for morning coffee on Friday to see your Shelby!! It was fun to see the steady stream of people that walked up and looked at both the cars & asked questions.

I'm so glad we got together for coffee and also got the families together as well later in the weekend. My wife is starting to understand that my SGT is more than just another "car"....she also thought I was the only one who liked Shelby vehicles as much as I do...now she knows that there are many of us inflicted with this same ailment, and ownership is the only known cure!

It was an honor to get to meet you and your family, and looking forward to hosting you in Atlanta sometime if you make it up this way...especially if it involves a Track Guys event at AMP!

Andy.

I was behind a couple of girls in the left lane holding up traffic, when I passed them on the right they gave me the thumbs up not the finger . That was a surprise !!

10. Looking in your rear view mirror on the interstate and seeing BMW M3's and M5's from way back weaving thru traffic to try to dive in front of you.

I had a guy walk up to me this morning at the gas station and ask me "Is that for real?" pointing at the Shelby lettering on the back. I said "yep, sure is"..he walked over to the passenger side, looked in the window, saw the dash plaque, grinned real big and said "man, this thing is nice! I would have it at home covered up. I told him, "they're built to be driven...it get bugs on it, dirt on it, I wash it and enjoy it the next day".

I've never had anything that gets the attention this car gets

I took the kids to McDonalds last weekend. Too k the Shelby and parked it in a very visible protected spot. We ordered and went to pick our table and noticed a small crowd around the car. Two teenage boys came back inside and kind of figured out I was the owner. They asked me several questions about the car, thought it was "sick" they lived the CS 69wheels. The experience was great as my kids also witnessed the attention this car gets.
