Airbag warning label delete - almost free

Recommended Posts

Hello,

There are a number of ways to do this, but here's how I did it. Maybe helpful for someone else that doesn't like those labels.

Picture 1 - warning label on visor

Picture 2 - masked with Frog tape

Picture 3 - rolled on paint (free sample of DutchBoy paint from Mendards - mine is Gargole Black to match Charcoal Black)

Picture 4 - final result

Picture 5 - back view of final result

If you don't want to paint the labels, you can also order fabric labels.

Enjoy.

Why not remove the label?

LOL...I was thinkin' the same thing. Can't you heat it and pull it???

I'm thinking of trying a hair-dryer and peel approach for mine. If I can't get them off or it doesn't look right I'll just remove the sun visors entirely which is what I did on my Saleen. I can't recall the last time I used a sun visor, that is what Sunglasses are for.

The label is "melted" into the fabric. Let me know how it goes trying to pull it off. :)

It's not really melted into the fabric itself I would say it's like ironed on. I removed the one in my 05 mustang and unless they changed how they put warning labels on, the hair dryer method works great! Just haven't gotten around to doing it in the Shelby yet. But yes it does appear to be melted into the fabric even on the 10's but still looks like it could be peeled off with some heat.

That's what I was thinkin' too. Personally, mine don't bother me but if they did/do, I'll try the heat and pull method. I think a heat gun might be too hot so I'll nab my wifes hair dryer/blower for a try.

Some collector 30 years from now is going to be really unhappy with the person who removed any of the tags or labels on these cars.

If you are not able to remove the label without damage, I wonder if a piece of iron-on fabric would be better than paint?

For what its worth:

Here's a link to a company that makes fabric labels to cover up the airbag warning label:

http://www.sunvisorsolutions.com/

I ordered some, but really thought the paint worked better.

Also, thought about taking off the visors, but with the 2013 you get the garage door opener built in.

From various threads I read before starting this - the topic comes up fairly often w/ BMW, Lexus, Cadillac, etc. Most people have not been able to remove the labels with heat or chemicals without damaging the fabric. Understand that years ago the labels could be removed, but once they started to apply the labels with heat, most people weren't able to remove them from what I read.

Anyway, replacement visors are available from a couple of sources with labels (i.e. Ford) or without labels (off-shore). Wish the labels wouldn't have bothered me, but you know how something can catch your attention....

Here are a couple of OEM makers of visors if anyone is interested:

That is sure a poor excuse for a website. You would think that they would take the time to at least show some decent hi-res pictures of their products and installation instructions.

Please post some pictures and your opinions on the fit and quality.

FYI - here's a picture of the labels I had received.

- Very good match for Charcoal Black fabric labels

- Just peel and stick (picture of backside of package gives these simple instructions)

- Adhesive already on back

Might be an option for some that don't like the warning label.
