Calipers

I've thought about the heat thing with regard to caliper covers. And the paint on the surface of calipers. Seems to me after a certain point the whole arrangement will be radiating at pretty much the same rate. Unless some of the engineers hereabouts can correct me, I think the difference among the radiation rates of rusty iron, painted iron, and painted aluminum is very small, and approaches insignificance even in extreme conditions. On its face, the color of the paint/covers should have an effect, with black doing the best radiating job. You got to figure that from the caliper's point of view every coat of paint (and layer of material of any kind) has two surfaces to reflect heat back into the caliper. No, really. We do need an engineer in here.

I remember reading that rusty iron was the best radiator in the era of drum brakes, but disk brakes are a different proposition entirely. Or is that "disc" brakes?

I have the Shelby covers on my car now 2 years, no issues brakes do not run any hotter. Yes they are fake but look good and get lots of good comments about them. Half the stuff on these cars are fake anyway, who cares. Its about looking good and when going down the highway at 80 seeing SHELBY I get a lot of thumbs up. I will try to post a pic of my FAKE caliper covers
