Jon Mopar
Keeping a car fairly original is important to me, but do you think it would look better with the black side skirts painted?
Afdharley
I've thought briefly about doing that with mine. I think to pull It off right the front splitter and lower rear valance would have to be painted also. That's my opinion.

rocky
I think you may run the risk of chips in the paint from stones you may kick up, that may be one of the reasons they are not painted
ssracer8
I have mine painted. Over 6k miles and no chips yet. It's a personal preference IMO.
Burning Blue Star IV
I have mine painted. Over 6k miles and no chips yet. It's a personal preference IMO. Your car looks great...I never saw the trim around the window and the mirrors painted as well.
03reptile
The new 2013 GT500's are painted the body color; new decision by Ford since all previous GT500's were black. I think it looks fine, either way. Have a scheduled production date and VIN for my 2013, and can't wait to see the painted rockers in person. 2011SHELBYGT500CONV
I have mine painted. Over 6k miles and no chips yet. It's a personal preference IMO. It does look nice all the same body color. I noticed when you striped the side you went for the 2007-2009 version. Did you like that version better? I'm not sure which one I like better, 07-09 or 10-Current version.
Capt500
My car is black w/ red stripes- the painted panels look much better IMO. I had both side rockers, the rear valance, and the hood vent sanded down and painted/clearcoated by a local body shop. He charged me $350- worth the money to me. I did all the removal and re-installation myself. It wasn't very difficult at all- maybe 3 hours of work for removal and the same to put everything back on. Car looks really sharp! To me, the plastic pieces look cheap/flimsy....and with painted panels, the car gives the illusion that it sits lower to the ground (at least to me anyway). With your car being white, I think it would greatly benefit from painted trim- the plastic pieces jump right out at me in your picture! Good luck! Crushinator
s er8 and amigo, that looks awesome! There's a reason they paint these now on the '13's. And it isn't because it looks worse! Ha!
IA Shelby
I am in the pros/cons camp. Pros - nice clean look. Both cars look finished. They "look" lowered more than normal. Cons - makes an already thick car look even thicker. I would do it if my car was a different color than Sterling Grey Metallic. I have been told by the body shop that is the hardest color to match. I fear the downside is greater than the upside.
dantesshelby
I woud not do it myself, why run the risk of more headaches down the road?, chipping, peeling etc... Also with certin colors it can give it an 80's ish euro look. IMO the black skirts give a bit more aggresive track ready look. but that's just my 2. dh777
Personal preferences but I like have those painted .... That is a great looking car! All SGTs had painted rockers. I always thought that was the main thing that set them apart.
aclass
I'm subscribing to this thread. I want to do it but was told that the paint would not stay on the plastic?? doesnt sound right to me. All the S197's were painted down there until 2010, personally, I never have liked the black all the way around the car, especially in the rear. Jadavis525
I think it could look good, but I worry it would take away from the natural look. Hmmm still up in the air for me...
Jon Mopar
Yeah, I agree. It looks really good....but some of you guys raise good points as to why I should leave them as-is (chipping is always an issue) Painting textured plastic is a breeze though, for those who worry about it. A dusting of a primer (plastic primer of some sort is \a smart move). Then light dust coats of paint until you build the color up, then clear. I've done the shot-cut method of just painting on bare plastic on my friend's Genesis (painted his diffuser). Started off with about 3 dust coats, then filled in. 2+ yrs later, it still looks great. No mater how well the job, chips and tar as always a threat, especially on a white or silver car.
stevenh
Are the 2013 side skirts a different material than previous model years? Was considering painting mine but the paint shop said due to all the silicone in the plastic it would look good for awhile but would inevitably crack and splinter over time. They are a great shop that does a lot of specialty paint jobs so I figure they know what they're talking about. So was wonderiung if the rear valance or side skirts on the painted 2013 are different? ilmor
I like the more "lowered" appearance of the painted skirts.
jskup1
The pre-'10's had the sideskirts painted as well. I haven't seen any complaints about the paint flaking.

QUIKSVT
Yea I was told to buy the rockers from the 13 as they are a different material and made to paint. Not sure how accurate that is though.....
