BlackBeauty319
I own a 2007 Shelby GT which you know came with stock hood pins. The previous owner replaced the stock units with Shelby brand billet hood pin kit. I noticed that the angle of the post as it protrudes through the hood does not result in the hood pin itself resting properly in the groves in the Shelby brand billet hood plate. I have tried several things: - Changing the height of the post but the alignment is still off. - Even when I try to align the pin and the plate without the hood plate screwed down, it does not align. - I have even considered bending the brackets, but this does not work. I must be missing something. Has anyone had this same issue and solved it? Thanks!
Rev Dennis
Bend the brackets. That's what I did.
SGT/SC2873
I bent the brackets as well to get proper alignment. I took a large box end wrench and put the box end over the pin (with hood up) applied slight pressure to bend forward just a little at a time then checked alignment by lowering hood until I got it right. Now I can let go of my hood about a foot high w/ no problems at all. Remember slight pressure, check and re-check. Craig
ilmor
Why is it that they don't line up like the originals? Seems that if the screw holes are in the same place, and therefore the holes, etc., they should. I guess it must be the added thickness / height of the billet plates that throws off the alignment a little?

maverick600rr
Yep. The stock ones are very thin, 1/8" maybe and the billet ones are 1/2" or better. Like Craig said, use the box end wrench, think I used a 13/16" or something with enough leverage, and bend a little at a time. You can move any direction, front to back or side to side. Doesn't take a whole lot of pressure to make a big adjustment. The kit came with all new parts ( brackets, pins, retaining rings, lanyard, etc.) but I didn't use any of the new stuff except for the plates. I tried using the new screws for the plate but they are different sizes so when I shut the hood the first time, half the new screws went flying out. New ones are slightly smaller than original ones. Another alignment you need to check is the hole for the retaining clip. One thing I like about the billet plates is the pin doesn't rattle around like it does with the stock plate. If adjusted correctly the pin fits nicely in the slot milled out of the top of the billet plate and stays put.
BlackBeauty319
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I ended up having to bend the brackets and lower the hood a bit, but they fit now!
maverick600rr
Glad you got it to work. The billet ones look a lot better than the stock ones.
