ilmor
As far as I know, I was the only participant at the Carlisle Team Shelby Quarter Aces Dragway event on Friday...or did anyone else show up after I left?? I arrived at the prescribed starting time, and waited for quite awhile but no one else showed. The Dragway let me run as much as I wanted at no cost! They were very friendly people, but they were upset that only one car showed. They said that they had opened up two hours earlier than usual to accomodate Team Shelby. Anyway, while I would have much preferred to race someone, I did take 4 or 5 runs down the 1/8th mile by myself. I had not drag raced my car before, and did not realize that the Shelby GT would spin the tires all the way through 3rd gear! So, I tried to take it a little slower to gain some traction, but could not keep her from spinning in 1st and second and had to try to manage that. My best run was a 9.23 at 74 +/- MPH. I think an 8.75 at 80 +/- MPH or so may be a more acceptable 1/8th mile time for a stock GT, which I assume (hope) is obtained with much stickier tires! eagledriver
I'm sorry to hear that! I think it was a two part cause. First, the threat of rain on Friday kept most away from the track and secondly the last minute change in credential check in had hundreds looking for the sign in tent which ultimately was outside the showfield at the expo center. This caused delays in getting signed in which caused a bunch to scrap the drags I feel. Again, can't fix the weather but will fix the check in process for next year
bullittmansparts
I think the guys, John/Andy really worked their butts off on the event THANKS, this was the one area that fell thru the cracks, I was asking several people after the Grand entrance about the drag races and no one had a clue. Finally caught up with Andy about 2:pm and said that those who wanted to go were probably there !? Got down there and it was sprinkling and saw one car ....Probably Ilmor, but decided to bag it and did'nt enter the facility.Anyway that said and as was noted you can't have everything run perfectly. Wife and I had a tremendous time and met some terrific members! THANKS again guys!
