Transmission and Differential Overflow

Recommended Posts

I like to take my car out to Shelby events and some local events and run it around the track a few times. I have noticed that on our local track in Fontana CA, that i get fluid coming out of the transmission and the differential over flow tubes. My initial reaction is to replace the fluid with higher temp fluid.

Any thoughts out there.

There are some after market catch cans out there. Also Ford had a TSB a couple of years back to correct this. It was a new part to replace the vent. It has a small rubber bulb that collected the oil. If you are still under warranty you may be able to still get the part.

Not uncommon for the diff. to overflow. As mentioned install the catch can or the little rubber bulb for the diff. As for the trans I think it is uncommon for it to overflow. Perhaps it was overfilled? Check the level. Should be fill to spill when the car is perfectly level. Best way is a level 4 post lift. You can check the diff level as well. Many also fill to spill on the diff but the correct level is actually 1/4-1/2" below the front fill hole. Again when the car is level on its own suspension.

Thank you for the help. I will get the catch can ordered up. As far as the trans goes, i'm going to try a higher temp fluid and see if that helps. Everything else about the car is set up just like I want it. Thanks again.
