Shelby GT pricing

Recommended Posts

I've been pondering selling my White SGT with 39k miles but have been running into issues determining getting an idea what the car is worth selling privately and what I could expect trading it in. A few websites I have used does not give an option to select the Shelby GT. Any clue what I can expect or any resources I can use?

It is my thought that for trade in you should check Kelly Blue or NADA guides. Because they aren't seen for sale everywhere I would check out Ebay sold or places like Car Sense (on the internet) that use no haggle pricing - once in awhile you may see one coming up for sale. Ebay has a few, but most never meet what the seller wants as a reserve. Lastly - drive around with a 4 sale sign in the window - some will just HAVE to have that wonderful and rare car.

Most dealers will not give you the Kelly or NADA book price on trade in. That includes the Kelly/NADA trade in price. Many dealers use the Black Book price and will try to work you down stating what price they pay for vehicles at auctions. I would suggest you go to speed shops in the area and ask to put up a poster with contact info. Also go to a dealership and ask them what they would pay to buy the car outright. Get the best price and then add about 3+K to that as the price you will accept. You might also want to go to the local Friday/Saturday night cruise-ins with a for sale sign in the window. Good Luck.

If it is still completely stock I would say a dealer will probably give you about $19k for it. There was one on eBay a about a month ago that a dealer sold with 4k miles on it for $25,500.

On www.kbb.com there is a "Shelby Pkg" option that you can select after you select what the base vehicle is, which I believe is the SGT.

I just ran the kbb thing and it showed the following for mine (I have 9500 miles) to "sell it myself"...(note - I am not selling my SGT!)

Excellent

$25,283

  • Very Good
    $24,733

  • Good
    $24,183

  • Fair
    $22,433

In the dealer trade in world, KBB is pretty much worthless. No dealer I know of uses, referees to it or barley acknowledges it.

With all do respect, I have to ask...........why are you "pondering" selling it? Please do not tell me it is because Shelby is dead.

You are correct, it is only a guide. When I traded in my Expedition last year, I used it to negotiate with a dealer and it helped to get the price up to something more satisfactory for me. This week CarMax offered me almost exactly the KBB number for my Nissan.

As for the gentleman considering selling his SGT here, I would suggest asking over what KBB suggests, negotiating and then letting the market decide. In the end result, that's really all anyone can do.

Stripes will be around 1k for a new set plus install, hood is bubbling around the pins so its prob safe to say the hood is toast and might as well get a new one. Also want to go sc with a procharger but im sure the motor will pop down the road as well. Money wise, just seems cheaper to go 5.0

Please do tell the things you want to do with the car. I can't see how it would be "smarter".

For what it is worth, the white one at Mecum in Indy had 3,000 miles and was in very nice condition. It sold at 31K to the highest bidder.

I like that number!

I bet if they got it for 16K it would be a RARE SHELBY when they had it on their lot for a whole lot more! I trust you walked away from that dealership.

LOL no doubt about that!

If I might be so bold, I agree with AstroDan - keep the car and put a whipple and an aftermarket (Cervini's, TruFiber or Tiger Racing) hood on it to solve the paint problem (which can then be repaired properly at a later date). Save the original parts so you can return it to stock later (or sell with the car when you do finally get rid of it). In the long run, that's cheaper than getting a new GT, and you still get to claim Shelby owner status.
