Quick, someone knock me to my scenes

My wife and I looked at a 2013 Race Red Boss 302 today. She just bought a 2012 Audi S5 and told me to get what I wanted. Really got me thinking about a new ride.

Why don't you ask Suze Ormond LOL? New cars @ a young age will keep you in the poor house most of the time . The Boss is a good bang for the buck @ lets say 39K . Try to buy used or not more than 15% of your net worth tied up in toys.

Having just fallen off the "Shelby GT Wagon", here is my take...

Adding the 550 Whipple is only the start... Next comes Big Brakes of some kind w/cooling ducts for serious track days... And wider wheels w/sticker tires are also a requirement... Maybe a set of taller gears and a track specific tune for higher octane than pump gas... The stock seats aren't the greatest for going around sharp corners at speed...

Consider that those of us who bought a SGT new in 2007 or 2008, probably (but not always) paid close to MSRP if not above because of Dealer ADM... That puts the base price around $40-42K depending on vehicle options and ADM. Now add in the $10-12K for the GT/SC upgrade + trans costs to SAI or TASCA and you are approaching $52-54K...

My 2012 Boss 302 cost me the LESS than my new SGT, but already comes with all the other required upgrades to handle the S/C increase in performance... And then some... Track Key for $302 is awesome! Track Attack out at Miller is FREE as long as you can get there... Owner's kit from FORD that is unique to your VIN for FREE... Lots of the BOSS racing items are direct bolt ons to the Street Boss... Forged bottom end and CNC heads make the 7,500 rpm redline a treat to listen to... Quad exhaust is just a bonus... Adjustable shocks are standard... As is the 8.5 qt oil pan w/cooler and HP radiator... Spoilers and splitters that are matched to the car (LS vs Street)... Recaro race seats if you want... Torsen diff for serious track days aslo just a click away on the option list... And while the advertised HP is 444 on the Boss, we all know better...

Oh and there will be about the same number of Boss 302s built as SGTs... So when I did the "math" it always pointed in the same direction... And all it took was one track session out at Spring Mountain for me to be hooked on the Boss. However, it was weeks before I could convince myself that this was the right thing for me to do for my situation...

Anyone sitting on the fence is more than willing to take my car out for a test drive... And like Jeff said, the water is just fine... Having just returned from ShelbyFest where there were only 3 new Boss 302s out of 400+ Shelbys and other Mustangs, NOBODY gave me a funny look for trading-in my SGT for a BOSS... Best of luck with your decision... Sorry it is such a hard one to make!

$4.2 million NW before you can purchase a Boss 302??? :drop: YGTBFK... http://askville.amazon.com/percentage-Americans-NET-WORTH-MILLION-DOLLARS-2010/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=84666446

Looks like Ford will have to shut their doors... :hysterical:

The Shelby GT will always have that one big advantage that none of the others have, and that is that it was created by SAI at their facility in Las Vegas, NV.

Also, a Shelby GT is a Shelby; a Boss is not. So, that is something to consider as well, i.e., how important is that fact to you?

Lastly, if you go from a Shelby GT and then move to a Boss 302, you've then spent $85,000 to $90,000 to get there! Whoa! But hey, if one is in a financial position to do that w/ no issues, why not?

Having said all that, I'd like one of each.

Your body style is better. Put a Whipple 550 in what you have and you will beat that Boss. Sorry. But if you want something new no one can help you. For the money the Boss 302 is tough to beat.

Just curious if you have riden in a Boss yet or if you have been to a road course where a BOSS has been on it?

Funny, I was going to ask the same question...

And while I wish I could have kept both (SGT & BOSS) in my garage, I only had room for one :angry22:

But remember, owning one of these kinds of cars is about what makes YOU the happiest... So ENJOY whatever you have and DRIVE them whenever you get the chance :peelout:

Is that a Von Gittin Jr's car?

That dude can drive the Mustang better than anybody I have ever seen. It sure was a treat to have him at Hallett in 2010

I found this video on the net just to show how Badazz he is.

07SGT0547 practices what he preaches. I followed him in my SGT to Shelbyfest in his brand new Boss 302 in the rain/thunder and lighting. I cringed watching that brand new undercarriage get broke in to the elements. His Boss is a sharp car. Thanks for the escort.

SGT vs. new Boss 302 . Well for me I have always wanted a Shelby. And the SGT is perfect.

Another thing I learned at Shelbyfest is that someone always has something better or newer. If you have 550 h.p. someone will have 585 h.p. I will never win that race. There is always something new coming out that is better.

You are welcome! And I just took a peek under the car with a flashlight, and except for a little dirt and some water spots, everything looks great. Took only 30 mins (after a quick wash and rinse) to dry and shine things back up to the way it was before I left for Hermann... Hardly a drop of rain or dirty water in the engine compartment or under the hood, which was surprising after the downpour we drove thru back in KC...

And if the BOSS hadn't come in Red w/White Stripes, I would have faithfully driven my SGT over to Hermann and back without an ounce of "would-a, could-a, should-a" at looking at all the newer, faster or nicer cars at the show :salute:

As long as the 6-speed manuals are still made in China, then absolutely. Newer is better, right? (are the 2013s still coming with Chinese transmissions?)

I've seen Boss 302s in person, and they just don't catch my attention as much as Shelby GTs/GT500s - but that's personal preference.

Are any of you guys paying off your Shelbys, or owning them outright? Or are you all just going for the next best thing? Not to be rude, but my Shelby is paid for, and I plan on keeping it.

I struggled with the delima last Summer about selling the SGT and picking up a Boss 302. I did a tame test drive of one at the Ford dealer around the corner from my house. It handled great and sounded awesome, but I still love the SGT and I'm not able to part with it and not have buyers/sellers remorse. The other deciding factor was I was not as fond of the front end treatment and I didn't like the poppy red color they had...but now they have Race Red for 2013.

My goal is to wait until one shows up used and in decent shape in about 3 or 4 years...all you guys out there buying up the Race Red 2013 please take good care of them for me!! One other thing, when you order them, please get the Recaro and Torsen package!!

I presently struggling to decide what all I should do to my SGT to tastefully boost the performance and stay within my budget (which is zero right now due to the kids tuition bills)....so my handicap right now is lack of funds...a good thing I guess in one way!

I fully understand you plight....good luck with your decision. Either way, they are both awesome vehicles and both will put a smile on your face each time you turn the key!

Andy.

My sgt has been paid off for two years now but will have 5 years of payments on the 2013 Boss although I should have it paid off within 3 years.

Ah so you went the other way eh haha. *shakes head*. Well congrats...now you'll beat me at the car shows.

OP it is a nice car. Covert Ford in Austin is where I bought my 2011 F150. Top notch guys.

These debates are silly! They're completely subjective and we can go back and forth one-upping each other until the final one seems to be "I think your car is ugly". I loved my SGT, always will, and I am loving owning a Boss. I can give all my reasons but so what? They're MY reasons and based upon what's important to me, or my perception, may not be yours.

In the end, just go look, take a drive, and make your decision...only one YOU can live with and be happy about. None of us have to deal with the aftermath so our views and opinions don't matter.

I will only tell you my ONLY regret is I couldn't keep both.

Good luck!

I said it was nice! But now I have to say...just not as nice as a SGT. :poke:

I appreciate every ones opinion, some very strong ones here. After some long thought and driving the Boss I've decided to keep my car. I've said since day one of ownership that I wouldn't sell her. I would love to have both and could probably swing it, but I'd be gross misappropriation of my meager earnings.

Thanks again for your input, it really did help with the decision.
