mywickedshelby
First and foremost, I have to thank my great friend Enis and the Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club (LASAAC) for the invite for My Son Michael and I to attend this fantastic event last week in LA. On Thursday evening April 19th at the Odyssey restaurant in Granada Hills, an intimate group of Shelby & Mustang entusiasts had the great pleasure of seeing and hearing the new 2013 GT500 up close and personal. That in itself would have been a real treat, but to top it off, Jamal Hameedi / Chief Engineer of SVT and Jim Owens / VP of Marketing for Shelby and Boss were both in attendance. Jamal and Jim graciously answered every question thrown their way for over 90 minutes as we stood around the hottest production pre-title Mustang in history. The engine was just recently certified at 662 hp and 630 ft lbs of torque, 16 mpg city, 24 hwy, no gas guzzler tax, 0-60 in first gear! I took a few photos that evening and I wanted to share a them here with you all...... First.......the car.........

mywickedshelby
Jamal and Jim told us all about the evolution of the Shelby GT500 and the challenges they faced achieving this spectacular finished product...... we were all left saying......."WOW!"........numerous times.......... Jamal arrived in the 2013 School Bus Yellow Boss 302 and Jim was driving the new GT500........ They gladly posed for some pics after the Q&A.............These I will always treasure...... mywickedshelby
Once again, a huge thank you to my bud Enis for thinking of us for this special invite to this special Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club (LASAAC) event. it is a rare treat to get to pick the brains of such involved and knowledgible Ford execs..... after the Q&A, we all had dinner together at the Odyssey where the questions and stories continued for several more hours. All in all, a truly wonderful and memorable evening with great folks..........new friends and old ones alike. Here is a couple more photos......... some may recognize where we are in these.......but that indeed is a story for another day!
mywickedshelby
you may notice the GT500 has NO GRILL. Cooling this beast was a challenge and the final production car has no grill. There are even pressure activated trap doors on the fan shroud to increase cooling when needed! the depth of testing and engineering of unique solutions for the challenges presented by this level of power is simply very impressive....... Cudos to Jamal and his team at Ford for overcoming everything in their path and making this Shelby a reality! :bandance:

Bobbyblaze
Is that the Candy Red or the Race Red? Also do the GT500s have the illumination of the mustang logo that shows on the ground upon unlocking the car? It would be cool if it was a cobra logo. Hey Michael, Just stumbled onto your thread here...6 months later... I had the pleasure of dining with Jamal Hameedi back in April 2006 during the West Coast Press tour for the soon to be released 2007 GT500 At that time he just moved over to SVT having come from the Truck division where he did a lot with the Expeditions. He was working under then SVT boss Hau Thai-Tang You couldn't meet a nicer guy, and yes very gracious. Owens is a good guy too...
