Golddiger
I'm looking at adding one of these units to the car in the near future so just a couple of questions . How hard are they to install in the garage with regular hand tools and floor jack? Where's the best place ( price wise ) to buy them . Remember though , i will need to ship it to Ontario Canada . E.Marquez
Hand tools is all you need, no jack required. Though I would go with the C&R H/E from Revan Racing (same unit as the Shelby one, but less $$) Add the larger IC tank for $75 and a 170 deg T Stat while your there. dantesshelby
In my opinion the afco is a good unit i installed on last month on my 2011, don't need a floor jack. i used rihno ramps (just need to elevate a few inch's) its supposed to take a few hours, mine took all days because the factory cooling hoses are all held on with tension type spring clamps. wrecked my hand muscles trying to loosen these with a needle nose plier, and slip joint pliers, do yourself a favor get the special pliers used to loosen these coolant hose clamps if you dont allready have em. electric fans are allmost allways on, which i didn't expect. but ya get used to it. have fun....8-)

E.Marquez
Are the fans supposed to be running all the time or are they worked on a Thermostat ? They are set to relays, you can trigger the relay in any way you want. The common is from the IC pump power wire, but others do so manually, and I'm machining a fitting to go in the IC coolant hose, and will use a thermo switch. Are these basically a Remove and replace item from the original?
E.Marquez
Did you use the one from Van ? Are these basically a Remove and replace item from the original? Yes I purchased the C&R brand H/E from Van at Revan Racing, as well as the larger OE look larger IC tank. It is a fairly easy install if you have a good base of mechanical experience and wiring. The instructions have many gaps that you have to fill in with personal knowledge and lots of viewing others installs. Van's customer service is great and will answer your questions as well as many have done the install and can assist with questions. NOTE, the price shown ON LINE for the H/E at Revan racing is a REQUIRED Display price, call for actual price http://www.revanracing.com/ Call 561-445-7702 for any questions about our products, or call to order today! terumi71
I purchased the Shelby one, built by C&R but has the Shelby lettering. The job is not difficult. But is tedious. Follow the directions and take your time. The original HE has no fans....so you'll have some circuits to run. Take your time. I did jack the front of the car up. Ramps would work. You'll have to take the bumper off. Used tools that I had onhand. Hoses were a pain, no doubt. Here's a pic mid-install done in my garage.

E.Marquez
The Front bumper cover comes off with 6 screws, two push pins and unplugging 6 lights plugs.
terumi71
Personally and honestly, if I can do it, you can do it. And you'll get all the help you need. The bumper, as stated, is very easy to pull off. It's the least of the job. From there one step at a time. Take frequent breaks. Think about each step, what the intent is, and take your time. Again, it's not hard, it's just tedious. A lot of wires that have to be run and made to look factory. You can do it.....!
randymarble
But the real question is.............................does the larger capacity heat exchanger and fans really keep you from heat soaking if you are pushing the car around on a hot day? Anyone really tested it out or did you just put it on because of marketing hype?

Anyone really tested it out or did you just put it on because of marketing hype? If your asking about OEM non Fan smallish HE to a Revan C&R HE then YES, I can say after data logging that the upgraded HE works as advertised.. Tested in Stop and go traffic...Highway driving, and several WOT pulls to midway of 6th gear. Recovery is faster, and IAT2 is lower over all. dancap3286
I have the AFCO unit and it's the best mod I have done to date. I have not seen my temp gauge go over 185 since I've had it and I have not experienced any severe heat soak whatsoever. It seemed with the factory HE the car would be heat soaked in a half hour but with the AFCO unit this is no longer a problem. Install is another story as I do not have the facilities to accomodate such a job si I can't comment on that.

I can say with absolute certainty, YES. And you don't need a hot day to need it. A few blasts down the road and you'll see a noticable loss of power. Not with a larger IC heat exchanger though. Been there done that, which is why I put mine on in the first place (after I installed the Whipple 2.9L, not during). It's not 'hype' at all. It's fact. kawwy600
I know I'm reviving an old thread, but... I'm going to buy the Shelby extreme duty heat exchanger during their current sale. I'm debating on purchasing the radiator as well but I was wondering if its worth it given the car is not tracked
GT500-2007
IMO if you are not tracking the car then the upgrade is nice jewelry but nothing else. If you have the car with an upgraded supercharger or Supersnaked then maybe it is worth it if you are pushing high horsepower or run the car hard but for a base GT500 not sure it's worth it. I track my GT500 and ran the base radiator with a dual pass HE, no fans, and had no issues until the car ran in close quarters in the stifling Florida Heat. Then I upgraded to a triple pass with fans and kept the stock radiator. No further issues. But then again that is on a track in Florida summer conditions. ShelbyGT5HUN
I have the C+R unit. It is the best mod to do to the car! This was my first summer with it, and the power never ends. Before the install, the car would make great power for the first 15mins, then fall flat. This whole past driving season, the power was there, anytime, any traffic conditions, without any reduction! You will beat higher HP cars, because you will not heat soak. This mod should be done with the pulley upgrade, but even if you stay stock, this would be a very worth while upgrade! kawwy600
I have a 2.5" pulley and I'm looking for a take off TVS from SAI. ShelbyGT5HUN
I have a 2.5" pulley and I'm looking for a take off TVS from SAI. I drive the car from LA to Las Vegas often and I definitely experience heat soak (especially in the summer) I just did that trip a few weeks ago, for the first time. 15N through Cajon Pass.... WOW what a ride! That one section, near the Mojave Solar Research Center (the thing with those black towers and all the mirrors), is like a 30-40mile sretch of road that you can see from one end to the other! That small, but long uphill climb, must just kill cars in the summer with the heat. Could cruise 80-90mph pretty much the whole way out of Cajon to the NV boarder. What a trip! Wish I had my Shelby to experience that. I would NOT want to drive a Shelby through the desert in the summer. I can't even imagine how it would not overheat.
