2010-2012 Super Snake Hood With Le Mans Stripes

Don't know if anybody ever tackled this one. I was considering getting a Super Snake hood (someday when a vendor actually HAS one available) but here is my issue. I have (and love) the conventional GT500 wide Le Mans stripes and want to reapply that style if and when I get a hood. I've never seen anybody run the later model Super Snake hood with wide stripes. I'm not certain but I think the wide stripes would overlap the top cooling vents therefore needing to be modified. Personally for me this kills the 'factory' look and would force me to bail on the idea. The Black Mamba hood sold by BMC Extreme Customs is similar to the Super Snake hood and they show it on their website with the wide stripes. It does what I don't like. It overlaps the vents and it just don't look 'right'. I'm not sure if that hood has the same vent dimensions and placement as the real SS hood. If so then I guess I got my answer. I guess I could call one of the vendors that advertise the SS hood and see if they can get me the dimensions between the vents. If you look at pics of the 2008 KR it shows exactly the look I want. Badass hood with badass stripes. No slicing. No dicing. If anybody has tackled this (or knows the dimensions between the SS hood vents) I would appreciate the input!

I have the Black Mamba hood on my '10 GT500 and yes the vents cut into the stripes if you keep the "stock" width on the dual stripes. I just cut my stripes around the vents and love the look personally and have gotten a lot of compliments, but to each their own I suppose. The '08 KR stripes i think are a little narrower than the '10 stripes but I could be wrong. Ask someone with a KR to measure the stripes to confirm. You could always redo the entire car with stripes that are a bit narrower to accomplish the look you are going for.

Any chance you could forward some pics of your car? I have to admit my opinion is based on some not so great pictures on the BMC website. I emailed them earlier today and they confirmed the spacing on both hoods are essentally the same. I'd prefer to go with the stock stripes. I just need to see better pics or possibly see in person.

There ya go. Best pictures I had handy. Not sure what color your stripes are, but just a heads up there aren't any factory stripes long enough to cover the hood so you will have to go with something after market. Even buying roof stripes won't be long enough for the hood. If you have gloss stripes you'll probably be fine as far as color matching, but the matte stripes are a bit more difficult to match and Ford won't tell you where they get theirs (at least I had no luck).

Very nice. The hood really takes it to another level. I like the way you did it just like the KR. I thought that was gonna be my idea. GET OUT OF MY HEAD!! Thanks for the pics.

Great minds think alike :). Yeah I agree the hood really does take it up a notch. Good luck with it of you decide to take the plunge.

That hood looks really nice on your car.

Is it the Carbon Fiber BMR hood or the fiberglass version?

Was it a 'plug-n-play' installation or did you have to have it worked over to get the fit/finish you got?

What about price? Shipping?

Weight? I understand the Shelby Super Snake hood actually weighs more than the OEM GT500 aluminum power dome hood.

I like yours better than the Shelby Super Snake hood too.

I was set on not getting a SS hood due to the added weight and increased aero drag but your pics got me to thinkin'....and that's a dangerous thing!

Hey Phill,

Thanks bud! I got the carbon fiber hood. What I did was paint the exterior black to match the car and left the underside (engine compartment side) carbon fiber. Compliments the engine bay nicely.

The carbon fiber weighs less than the fiberglass version from what I was told. I did not weigh it, but it felt very close to the same weight as the stock aluminum hood.

It WAS DEFINENTLY NOT plug and play, but it didn't take a whole lot of effort to make it fit right. It was a bit low in the back so I just Maguivered some hard rubber material I had laying around and was able to bring it flush with the fenders using the material as a spacer. Also the latch came no where close to being able to latch properly (you use the stock latch from the original hood and transfer it over to the new hood). I had to get some longer stainless steel bolts and about 4 washers for each side of the latch and that dropped the latch far enough down that it would latch. You may also have to adjust the fenders to get proper alignment....I didn't feel that ambitious so I didn't mess with that. It was close enough for me by the time I was done.

Honestly I don't recall on the price and shipping, you would have to check BMC Extreme Customs website for that. I think it was $200 something for shipping.

I think even if you got a supersnake hood you would have some fitment adjustment issues. All these aftermarket hoods take a little finesse to make everything line up properly from what I have heard....I have certainly had my share of other Shelby parts that required a little modding to fit right.

Personally, I didn't find the issues I had to be that bad and I would do it again.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I'm not sure I have seen that hood available. It has no heat extractors but I guess that would solve the problem of having to cut or paint around the vents. Personally I prefer the heat extractors both for their function and looks.

I didn't even notice that. I saw the car at autorama and didn't notice it there either.

I was wondering if the photo is real or a photo shop crop job.

I hadn't noticed it either until it was pointed out!

That would mean Shelby would have had to get a hood without the vent holes in it because if I remember right, the flyer said it was a Shelby hood.

Anyone seen it in person who has a photo of the actual car?

scpinto. One more question. The SHELBY letters on the front of the hood-are they just the same as the ones on the decklid or something different? Thanks. Steve

Hey Steve,

The letters I put on the hood are the same as the trunk letters, they are just spaced more closely together than on the trunk.
