Buying a grabber blue '12 instead of a '13

Recommended Posts

I'm saving myself around $15,000 by not buying the '13. I've been looking around for about a week and

finally found a grabber blue, white stripes, SVTPP, Electronics package car where the dealer was very willing to deal on the car.

Should be doing the wire transfer tomorrow and possibly have it delivered Tuesday or Wednesday this week. I test

drove a '12 silver with red striped coupe at the dealer I bought my '11 at, but I just don't like the color enough to buy it.

In the end, grabber blue was the car I really wanted and ended up getting a better deal on that car anyway.

The only thing the blue car is missing is the Recaro seats, but I can do without them I suppose.

So, after selling everything off my '11 (tuner, pulley, removal tool, JLT intake, filter) looks like I'll be buying everything all over again.

Can't wait to post up pics when it gets delivered!

I made the same decision. I paid invoice (45K) for a silver black stripes 2012 instead of spending a minimum of 10K more. The extra horsepower is easy to make, I don't really like the LED bling, and lots of dealers (one for sure in Houston) are putting ADM's of up to 20K on the cars. I got the exact color/stripes/wheels I wanted without all the drama. lol

congrats on your new car. You made a sensible decision.

I decided in the end , to me, the '13 wasn't worth the extra money over the '12 considering the '13 at MSRP and the '12 at $2500 under invoice. The price is literally a $15,000 difference. Wish like hell I wouldn't have sold my '11 but what's done is done.

So no, I didn't sell me '11 to get a '12. It just worked out that way.

I get it .. sold the '11 to shop for '13 and decided against it .... bought a '12.

Roger!! I got it, and you're right, the difference is huge right now.

'13 - ADMs all over the place will force you to hunt for an MSRP seller.

'12 - whereas the $2500 under invoice is on a significant amount of inventory

Congrats on the purchase, and getting exactly what you wanted in a '12 makes it sweeter. It will be a while before the '13s can see that kind of selling point, if ever.

I have a Grabber Blue 2011 GT500. You are going to be very happy with the GB. Another $ 15,000.00 for additional 100hp is steep. I think you are going to pay less for your 2012 then I did for my 2011. Good Luck !! Take pics :camera:

Good for you, to me it is not just the 100HP, but I agree the 2013 is steep from a pricing stand-point, another year and they will be going for invoice. With all the stupid dealer putting ADM's on them you might even see Rebates a year from now because very few will pay.

Anyone tells you different and they are a dealer.

Did seem a little weird to me at first - getting rid of 2011 to get a 2012 - but now it makes sense to me.

Congrats and good luck with your we car :)

Please tell me you live in a "front plate required state". I bought my vert from Apple Ford in MD and though front plates are required where I live I asked them to not put one on. They were very good though and said they never put front plates on the Shelby's at delivery unless requested by customer. Congrats on the purchase. I can't wait til it gets warmer and the sand is washed off the roads here so I can drop the top and drive it.

I'm in a front-plate-required state and I still would have been :censored: pissed if the dealer had screwed a plate into the front bumper. I'm driving with no front plate, 'cause I'm a rebel like that. I'll tell the cop I'm waiting for a bracket from the dealer that won't require drilling, and show him the 2nd plate (I keep it under the passenger seat). Maybe he lets me go, maybe I get a fix-it ticket or small fine.

Even if that happens, I'll probably use painter's tape to stick the front plate on to get the fix-it ticket signed, then take it off again. REBEL!

I can understand being mad if they put it on afterwards you requested them not to...but if it was already used or put on previously by the dealer, I would think a quick solution would be to remove it and simply get some white pinstripes/vinyl tape and cut out small circles and place over the holes. No one would notice - I know I would be able to live with that.

That's a good idea about the pinstripe. Actually what I did was go to the local hardware store and bought two white 1/4" plugs that match the stripes perfectly.

Pushed them in and the holes disappeared!

Yeah, they already had the holes there before I bought the car so my hands were tied. No big deal...but thanks for noticing! hahaha....buzzkill.

Nice car and, based on what you did and why you did, I would say you are a wise man.

When the '13 was announced, I too jumped on the bandwagon and listed my car for sale- after a couple of nibbles on it, I stopped and asked myself, "what the hell are you thinking?" Conservatively, I would be looking at 16-17K to replace the car I have with a '13 I would want. This doesn't even count what I would "lose" on my car since there are few buyers for non-'13 cars. Sure, there are buyers, but they are looking for suckers willing to unload their car for ridiculously low prices.

In the end, I love the car I have and rarely tap into the 550hp it has. What would I do with another 100 hp ? If I want to do that, I have a local Shelby/Roush dealer willing to set me up with another 50-60 horses for "pennies" compared to the sticker on a '13.

That's another great option. Some cars have things like that already to cover the holes. I take it that you are on the east side of PA? I'm on the west or else we could meet up sometime.

I'm actually right about in the middle. I'm an hour north of Harrisburg/Carlisle. If you come to Carlisle this year, let me know. Maybe we could meet up

for that?

And, if you did get the urge for 150 more hp, you're only a TVS away. And you saved $14k. :happy feet:

Probably why the car was sitting there so long! Enjoy it thought!
