IT'S ALIVE!!! The Kenne Bell is Sweet, but minor issue

Ladies and gents,

I got my Stage 3 Kenne Bell last Thursday and, after working on it a little at a time due to Easter (had to do the egg hunt stuff with the kidos) and other "life" issues, I finally finished this morning. Man, this thing is sweet as hell and the tune that the folks at KB came up with make it very docile at idle, but opens woop ass at WOT. I have pictures of the pre and post install, but need to download them, I'll get those up by tomorrow. Here's a summary of my experience:

Pros:

  • Absolutely monstrous throttle body accompanied by a Ford GT (supercar) intake assembly.
  • Comes with everything you need to make up to 728 hp on pump gas (if you use the 2 7/8 pully that came with my kit - the race tune they gave me will give you a hair over 800); this is to the wheels folks...
  • Very quiet
  • Billet and steel bypass assembly
  • No need to increase injector sizes; only requires a boost-a-pump
  • Prodigous TORQUE!!! It'll put your Shelby on steroids; can't even begin to explain the monster I now possess

Cons:

  • Does not come with cooler spark plugs; I ended up buying the TR6s on my own
  • If you don't normally work on your car, you very likely will not have all of the tools you'll need for the install; I had everything but still could have used a special wrench which I needed for one of the pesky throttle body bolts
  • You have to cut a small section of your hood in order to clear the front assembly of the blower casing; you don't penetrate the hood so you can stop breathing in a paper bag. But for purists, this would be a no-no; I'm not a purist, I'm an enthusiast and did what I had to. I knew this modification was required when I bought the kit - if you want to play, you gotta pay
  • You have to remove your strut tower brace; I'll be looking for alternate ways to avoid tower deflectoin because I doubt that even an adjustable brace will clear the blower without changing out the hood (good opportunity to convince the wifey to let me buy the KRs when it comes out!)

After making sure the car was up to par I made a few WOT passes on some abandoned back roads to make sure everything was ok; it wasn't until I got home that I noticed a strange whine. I thought it was coming from the blower snout, but it actually was coming from the rear of the blower plenum towards the firewall; can anyone say vacuum leak. DAMN I HATE VACUUM LEAKS!!!!!! So, I'm going to spend my evening taking the blower off of the plenum to retorque all of the hex screws up again. It has to be a small leak because idle was damn near perfect, but the long-term fuel trims (LTFTs) were running at about 13% - a dead givaway of a leak. Good thing it reared its ugly head before I came face to face with a Z06; but I can already taste the blood!

These cars are made to smoke, so is anyone up for BBQ?

Regards,

Joseph (FordGeek)
