2013 Red with White stripes - Pics

Recommended Posts

Much to my surprise I came across a 2013 GT500 at the Ottawa Car Show today (Race Red with White stripes).

Interestingly this model did not have the additional front lower splitter clipped on. I could just make out new yellow towers inside the wheel wells. Here are some things that stood out;

- The new SVTPP rims are much darker than I expected (almost black). Thought this would look good but now I am partial to the previous SVTPP gunmetal color (same tires on the car),

- Not a huge fan of the new black panel across the back but it is not quite as bad as I first thought,

- Liked the painted lowers much better than I thought I would,

- Did not like the open front grill as much as I thought I would. From a distance though looks almost the same as the 11/12,

- For some reason it looked like the brake rotors had been painted with a thin coat of flat brake paint (perhaps to keep rust from showing?).

Overall the new 13 does not really look much different than the 11/12's other than at the rear. I understand there is a whole lot more you don't see under the hood and under the car which will make this thing a real monster. I have been seriously considering the new 13 so I was very happy to have finally seen one. Given the large price difference between a trade in and the new price I think I am going to stick with what I've got for now though. For those of you who can afford one I am still envious.

By the way they also had a 13 Mustang GT at the show and I really like what they have done to the front end.

There was also a ZL1 at the show. First thing that caught my attention was how wide the tires appeared to be on the front. It had 305 rears and 285 fronts (G2's). The front tires extended about 1/4 of an inch outside of the front wells. Under the hood it was a little rougher under than I would have expected. Saw some spots near the edges where the paint appeared to be thin. Interior was a bit better than I expected but when I sat in it I did not have enough head room (it had a sun roof and I am 6'1"). The deep metallic orange color also did not really do it for me either.

Great pics, thanks for sharing them! Race Red with white stripes looks fantastic and the only reason I didn't pick it is that's what color

my last Shelby was. Wanted something different this time.

I haven't seen the wheels in person yet, and judging by the pics, I still think the '11 and '12 SVTPP wheels look better. But maybe I'll

change my mind when they're on my car and I have to pay for them every month. :hysterical2:

I agree that the front of the new Gt looks great, yet I don't care for it because it looks too much like our Shelby's that cost $40,000 more.

That was always one easy way to distinguish the Shelby from the regular Mustang. That may be a little harder now.

If you study the pictures of the Shelby's and Mustang, I mean really study the lines of the car, then click on the picture of the Camaro,

holy Lord that car is a freaken train wreck! The lines of the Shelby flow and have purpose. The car looks amazing without being too

over-the-top. There's way too much going on, on the front of the ZL1. Like they didn't know when to quit adding stuff on.

Thanks for sharing. We also had our auto show in Quebec City two weeks ago; the GT500 was supposed to be there, but unfortunately it wasn't. I saw a 2013 V6 vert and a 5.0 coupe yesterday at a local dealer. The 2013 5.0 was sitting next to a 2012 GT500 and the front end on these two looked very similar. I like the new back end but I would have prefer if they would have avoided the black plastic panel around the license plate.

not a fan of the 13's taillights, center black panel, or the black panels "surrounding" the liscense plate. IMO, the whole "look" is too busy & overdone. 650hp makes up for alot of "shortcomings", but I dont think the shelby's "butt" is getting "finer" with age.......although if I won the lottery, I'd be ordering a red/black stripe coupe asap :wub2:

The Red with White did look good. The lighting set up for the display was less than ideal as the lights were offset to one side above the car and were a little overpowering.

What I can tell you though is that the rims on this display model were VERY DARK (almost black) even in the light. After having seen them I definately like the color and style of the 11/12 SVTPP wheels better.

Agree on the ZL1. I did not seem to really stand out. It did not look anywhere as good under the hood as it did in the media shots released to date. Als not a good fit inside for a tall person.

I also think the front looks unfinished with out the grill and dont care for the look of the black rear panel, the new tail pipes look like what you see on cars from europe. I do like the other changes that were made to increase the performance.

Oh, it is? That's good to know; I know I got a fair look at it when it was at the auto show, but someone checking out that car was telling me that the hood now has a plastic peice for looks, but no function. It looked somewhat like he could have been right; I should have looked closer.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I know this is a Shelby site and people are biased but you moronic bashing of the ZL1 make no sense to anyone whi is not blind. Calling that car's look a train wreck destroys what little credibility you might have.

Okay, maybe it's not a train wreck, but IN MY OPINION, it looks like shit. There. is that better?

Thanks for posting these pics! By any chance do you have a close-up of the rear wheel brake set-up, like the great one you have of the front brake? I always thought the rear rotors on my '11 SVTPP looked ridiculously small in diameter, perched inside those giant 20" wheels. I know the '13 has bigger rear rotors and I was hoping to see a picture of them.

And I agree with the comments on the Camaro. The hood is just too busy with the huge carbon fiber island in the middle. And why didn't they put a big white "SS" emblem in the front, like the '69's used to have? The giant bowtie isn't getting it done.

And my 2011 GT500 was my first-ever Ford purchase. I was strictly a GM guy (including being the orignal owner of a 2002 Z06), so don't call me a Chevy-basher. I bought my GT500 becuase GM is being outclassed by Ford in the muscle car segment....

I saw my first ZL1 at the Cleveland Autoshow and other than the rims the car IS rather reminiscent of a train. It could teach the CTS-V a think or two about looking heavy. I spent the most time checking out a Corvette GS Convertible which IMO was the best looking car at the show sadly (No GT500 )= )

To be fair the plastic looking rear end of the 2013 mustangs looks extremely cheap, I prefer the 2011-2012 rear ends.

I just looked at the photos I did get and unfortunately I did not take a close up of the rear brake. Not sure why. I do remember that it filled the rear rim better but that flat black paint on the rotor really threw me.

Like you this is my first Ford and I have been very pleased with the 500 so far.

Hmmm..so that is how mar car would look as a 13 :)

The rear is not bad, like the llights but not the panel. The front grill reminds me of the 03/04 Cobra's. The new wheels are Ok, but I think I like my PP wheels better. The car still looks good though.

As for the ZL1, well meh. The front is not so bad, but imo they should have changed the grill. The only thing that sets it apart from the front is the tears fog light setup. That and the mail slot delete I guess. I need to see it in person to get a real feel look i guess. Some Camaro's just look blah, where others do look good with some work. Not that I expect to see em to close.....cept for the review.

I looked at two 2013 GT's today, one ibn the candy red and the other in black. The black valence is really a non-issue on the black car, though on a 2013 Shelby you'd lose the stripes currently on the vertical portion of the rear decklid for the 2012 and earlier versions.

On the dark red car, the black decklid valence blends in pretty well with the smoked tail lamps and it's actually starting to grow on me a bit. Hey, at least you get the WIDE stripes on the car no matter if you order the SVTPP or not!! :sing_rain:

  • 4 weeks later...

looking at the pictures it just looks like a bad prep job all around on the GT500. The most glaring thing I picked up on at first glance was how the sprayed on tire finish was some type of black stuff, making the White lettering look like a 5 year old did the prep.

IMO clean the stuff off the letters or mount them as Black walls.

You prefer a gigantic black plastic diffuser on the rear end instead of a small one? And as far as the deck lid panel go google a picture of a 13 mustang WITHOUT it. With the new tail lights if you don't have that deck lid panel the rear looks EXTREMELY stupid and bad. Thats why ford used the deck lid panel so it would look good with the new tail lights. Plus any car with white stripes doesn't really match with the tail lights or deck lid panel so thats another reason people aren't liking it on white stripped cars.

Good point about the rear black plastic between the tail lights on the 13's. It is there to blend the overall look of the new tail light design. Because of that black panel the car only looks good with either the matt black stripes or no stripes at all. IMO It looks too broken up with any other color stripe to me. That said I wouldn't say that it would look "EXTREMELY stupid and bad" if the panel was removed and the stripes continued in that area in fact if you had the white stripes I think it would improve the look.

Maybe. I forgot where but I saw a picture of a gt without the panel. And it looked soooooooooo stupid. It was horrible. Probably would look better if stripes continued through it. I am not sure. I kind of like how the panel breaks up the stripes in 3 different sections now.
