NMAv
Ok, not sure if this is comparing apples and oranges but these two SC upgrades are the finalists in my desire to get more HP our of my ride. I've read a lot about Justin's VMP and for the price it seems like a great way to go. I haven't read as many things about the KB 2.8 LC but being that it is a newer unit and a little under twice the price I would suspect that to be the case. My question is really simple, if you have either unit can you drop a PM or post here your numbers (hp, boost, 1/4 mile etc). Also, if you have any experience with both units I would appreciate yoru thoughts on the benefits and shortcomings of each unit. Lastly, if money were no object ... which unit? thanks, NMAv
rducote
Your gonna have trouble wiping that smile off your face no matter which one you go with. I had whipple in the mix too, when I was considering S/C's. I ended up going with a whipple 2.9L, because I found a team shelby member with a slightly used one for a good price. If I hadnt found that deal, I would have gone with VMP's TVS. I also purchased a JLT 127mm CAI and L&M 72mm T/B, she's making 694hp to the wheels. you'll be happy with whatever you decide. I run our VMP TVS, 10% lower, JLT 127mm, Cobra Jet 65mm, 72# injectors and saw 705rwhp with 3.73s. My best is 10.36@132. Justin's '07 makes about another 75rwhp, but he's the boss. What they DON'T mention is the price difference. bj

Yes, everything I have heard about the VMP TVS is very good, same for the TVS and the KB. I'm just wondering what are the benefits of one over the other and is it significant (other than costs). Ease of simple install is a plus for the TVS variant.
RR07SHELBY
I installed a VMP ported TVS with the modified snout to run the 2.5 upper. I also have an L&M twin 66mm throttle body, Steeda CAI, SLP high-flow x-pipe and an SLP axle back exhaust. The car made 699 rwhp and 685 rwt. It ran out of fuel around 5500 rpms. I just ordered some 72lb injectors to feed the need. I will hopefully be taking it back to the dyno this week. Kudos to Justin and VMP.
Imatk
The Kenne Bell is more of a difficult install as you have to cut or "notch" the hood for it to fit. Either that or lower the engine... whichever you choose it's more of a PITA. The Kenne Bell supposedly has more power potential than the TVS as it's a larger blower. Although with the VMP it narrows that gap quite nicely. The Kenne Bell also from what I've read, need to have the supercharger oil changed more often than the TVS which I believe is good to 100k miles. I'll let others chime in on this who have more first-hand knowledge but this is what I've gathered in my own research into blowers. FWIW if it were me I'd go with the TVS without question simply because I can install it myself with no hassle. Although I would likely go with the FRPP version since I don't want/need the extra power the VMP offers (also another reason I don't need the Kenne Bell). Hell I can't hook up that easily with the damn stock blower and FRPP CAI and tune! And if the roads are wet forget trying to hook up... even in third!! Nickel version: VMP TVS= outstanding bottom end. Anyone that runs one is blown away with the torque curve. My car makes 650 rwtq at just over 2500rpm. VMP TVS vs KB= Ease of installation. No question. If you can turn a wrench, you can install one in 2 hours, tops. VMP TVS vs KB= Bang for the buck. Do the math. Buy the VMP TVS, bolt it on, make 625 rwhp on a stock car and use the rest of the money on suspension, tires and track time and go romp on a ZR1. Been there, done that. Anyone that would like some more info is welcome to shoot me an email or a phone call and I'll help you out. bj
xxxcobraxxx
I myself have been on the fence about these two blowers. I have read countless forum posts and talked to many different owners. The VMP TVS seems like the best deal out there. I have one question I have yet to answer with all my research. Does the TVS heat soak faster than a Kenne Belle or 2.9L Whipple? Let take road racing for instance, How much sooner, if any, would the TVS hit the point where the pcm starts pulling timing faster since it is being spun harder to make the same power as the twin screws? I do a lot of bumper to bumper traffic driving and already have Revan Racing cooling mods so I have the best tools to fight heat soak but is this going to pose a problem? Sitting in traffic is there a lot of heat being built up to where the extra power will be gone? When I had my pullied Shelby with no heat exchanger or cooling mods after one WOT blast the car would not break the tires loose anymore? I installed the Revan Heat Exchanger and don't have this problem anymore. Does this happen with the bigger blowers or more importantly with the TVS since this is what I'm leaning towards. Has anyone ever logged what the IAT temp difference are between the blowers at a given horsepower? I know the TVS makes awesome power but what happens after 2-3 pulls on the dyno? What kind of power drop if any would you see after the 3rd pull?
KR158
I run the vmp tvs, 10% lower, dynatech lt's, frp cai, lm 66 and on 91 pump car made 724whp and 719wlbft. I would like some more power but think im maxed out for the blower and the stock fuel system
KR158
I do know there is a local 6.2 Camaro who runs the 2.8LC and claims 14-15lbs of boost and 725-750whp and that car hits way harder than the tvs does. Not sure how as that has always been my thing was the low end torque. Not sure if he has more boost or what but I know it will jump out 2 cars from any speed right away. USNavyFlyer
I just pulled the trigger on the VMP today. Figured I could put the extra cash in tires and suspension. I am not really planning on racing, more of a weekend driver that just wants to have fun. I thought TVS was known for low end torque and whipple just held power (maybe a bit more power as well) across the entire range. But I am a newbie to modding, so this is just what I have read. 2nd2none
The hood notching or engine lowering was the only reason I never considered the KB blowers. I looked at the 2.9 Whipple or VMP TVS. Ended up going with the VMP TVS in the end and don't regret it at all
NMAv
Well I've totally blown the plan out of the water. Going with the KB 3.6LC as the impending release of the 2013 will make me feel wowfully inadequate (ok my wife didn't buy that line either). Actually, I spoke with Van a little and did a lot of on line research and I think the best bang for the buck is the VMP, but the best bang (without considering the buck) is the KB 3.6. I know some will disagree and say the Whipple etc. I guess the vendor and tuner I have grown to trust recommends the KB for my application so I'm going to go with that. That of course means new hood etc. Ordered the hood and am negoiating the some CS wheels, then will go with teh KB this summer. All things considered it is just fun tinkering. The TVS will heat soak much faster due to the RPM of the blower. Van 561-445-7702
robwidner
Hey saw your post on the blower choices, i'm going with the TVS, here's why, SCT tuner with a tune built for my car as it will set with TVS and mods already done, VMP boost a pump, Steeda cold air with steeda upper and innovators west 10% lower and Justin said should make 700 rwhp, for only 3350 dollars, can't go wrong. Spectre500
I went KB 2.8 LC as well. The choice was clear, Liquid Cooled, Billet vs Cast, The option to have it Polished, Bigger rotor pack, Superior intake system, Most importantly will grow with me IF I need more power. frazierfreud
I had a kb 2.8 on my 09' gt 500. on 18psi made 700rwhp and 585lbft. the kb pulled hard. not as torque as people may think. I think they shine over the tvs with really high boost and race gas. on the street, the tvs might be a little more potent!
Deadly Venom
I am going with the 2.8 KB LC. New KB heat exchanger that fits under the super charger and a Steeda triple pass heat exchanger out front. I also ordered a 55GPM pump and large stock look reservoir. I track this car at Daytona and Sebring. I drive hard and have been fighting the heat soak for two years. I cant wait to try this combo out!
