usndvr79_merged
My 2007 GT/SC was run 10 laps in homestead and after the event my power steering was hard to turn and noisy. The fluid smells ok (not burnt) and I am at a loss to know what to do next. I bought some new fluid and have found a you tube vid that explains how to get the most fluid out then you just refill it to the proper level. I just have a bad feeling thats not the problem. None of my car problems are ever that easy. So are there any theories out there you guys can help me with? Thanks in advance, Jonathan
JeffIsHereToo
Sounds like your power steering pump is dying or the line has an issue but the whine sounds like the pump.
NordicShelby
I take mine to the road coarse alot and have fried out the power steering pump as well. I had the same problerms that you described so I would guess its your pump that is shot.It cost me $500 to get fixed
07SGT4578
This has been a problem on many many cars that are tracked, first thing you should do is replace the power steering pump. When you do so, add a good power steering cooler, and completely evacuate the system and replace with new ATF transmission fluid. This has worked for many, and maybe worth a try. usndvr79_merged
Thanks everyone. I did replace the fluid and even put some lucas ps goop in there and it sounds and acts the same. I am worried its gonna cost me a fortune because of the Super Charger being in the way so they will have to take all that out ahhhh!!
slbgtsc
Isn't the PS pump covered under warranty and/or the extended warranty? For those who have installed a power steering cooler which brand? Mine has a nice whine but it feels fine for now. 07SGT4578 Curious about what is different about the tranny fluid compared to PS fluid? Thanks

I have a whipple 550 supercharger and they didn't need to remove anything from that to get the pump in and out. They simply remove the power steering pump from below while the car is jacked up in the air and they put the pulley on after they installed the pump.... it was a major PAIN IN THE AZZ for the tech but he did it successfully. Like I mentioned early it was only $500 and that was the cost of the pump and the install.
FordRocks1
When were you at HMS? I would've love to see a SGT/SC in action, at any rate, if you are located in South Florida it might be worth it to take it to a Ford master tech that most of us Stang owners goes to. If interested shoot me a PM. I hope to attend Sebring this year, registration is open for that now.
JeffIsHereToo
They can go from under and while a PITA it's a pretty simple replacement even I've done it and if I can do it, ANYONE CAN DO IT!

slbgtsc
Ford uses ATF fluid as power steering fluid. I've been running standard PS fluid in mine since changing out to a moroso tank? On a completely different note my whine is now resolved! I was reading on another Forum about a plastic pulley that is used when installing a Saleen Supercharger (which I have on my SGT) so I swapped it out for a metal pulley and the noise is now gone! Bearing was going bad. I will still add a PS cooler later this summer once I am gainfully employed again.

There is so much stuff under the hood with the sc its a little intimidating Hey no supercharger and mine so far has been fine but wonder for you track guys that a good filter help out in saving your pumps. You have to figure the fluid has to breakdown at some point. If Royal purple or someone else makes a better fluid and with a filter may be the way to go same as beating an automatic trans fluid breaks down. Autozone sells the filters they look like a gas filter canister and same size. For the guys that like buying from Ford they are usually made buy someone else. RACERX009
Not sure i know of the filter where the fluid goes in. I have only 8000mls on my car so no real wear but will change all fluids to a better performance fluids. Plus add the filter to the powersteering they always pop up online when shopping at Autozone. Also let you guys know the reason, I buy from them is their advantage rewards card. You spend over 20.00 and they give you money back or you let it build up. I have spent 40.00 and end up getting rewards to pay the whole bill and they prices are low with no hassles of returns. Plus their car batterys which I had to replace in my car and the wife has an 8yr warranty the first 3yrs is an free replacement after that pro rated. You really can't go wrong they also sell the super lite car batterys. Just a thought
