GT500 Exclusivity

I've owned GT500s for about 4 years now ('08 and '10) and that whole time I've only seen ONE other 2010+ car on the road (and he was visiting from Canada) and maybe half a dozen 07-09's. To put it in perspective, I've seen 2 ZR1's and TONS of Z06s. It really makes you see what a select group of car owners we are.

In southern California I see about one 2007-2009 GT500's every other month. I've only seen 3 2010+ GT500's in the two years I've owned my car besides a couple buddies of mine who also have Shelbys. But yes, Z06 and 911 turbos are the most common sports cars I see here

There's a white stripe delete GT500KR around here; saw it a few weeks ago. That's the only true Shelby car I've seen so far (besides a black stripe delete 2012 in the dealer's showroom). Saw a 96-98 (I'm pretty sure; don't think it was the 99-04 "new edge" body style) SVT Cobra just the other day. He got a bit spunky when I went by (not blowing by him; just in a faster lane of 5PM traffic). I was all :hysterical:

'Course, my car only had 1-1/2 working fuel pumps at the time, so he probably would've won a roll-on race. Not today, though.

I don't see one very often around the Toronto area, especially in January...but surprise surprise I saw a blue '09 in Guelph during a SNOW STORM! That guy is ballsy. As for 2010+, I've seen a couple including one guy who covered it in Hello Kitty stickers and had about 20 cameras mounted to the dash. He had a crazy ugly skirt package on it as well. I saw him going to his car and he was wearing a cowboy hat. He's the first I've ever seen in a cowboy hat in Canada. A few months later I saw the same car and he had his grabber stripes removed and changed his rims to spinners. I guess there's no accounting for taste.....

My car is locked up until April :( Stupid snow. Stupid salt.

Haven't seen any other GT500's. I did enjoy the 'wave' between Vette drivers. Even the ZR1 guys would

wave to the lowly 'narrow body' types like me. When I acknowledged a kid in GT Vert last week, he took it

as a challenge. :hysterical2:

But fair is fair there have been other Mustang drivers who've given

my their 'thumbs up' as they know what a Shelby is.

Looking forward to the Shelby gathering in Carlisle this June!

Crazy! I pulled into tom thumb the other day and a older guy in a z06 gave me a wave too. Nice to see that even some corvette guys have respect for any high performance muscle. I never get waves from american cars in my Supra. Just stares

Ditto here. We hardly ever see 2010+ Shelbys, with a few 07-09 cars out on the roads. But when our Shelby club meets monthly, we always have a dozen or so cars which are mostly 07-09's. Lots of stares and thumbs up when we arrive at a restaurant. Always lots of Vettes out there.

Somewhat related - I ride a 750cc Honda Nighthawk motorcycle. Open engine, windshield, with a sorta sportbike-looking seat and back end. It's a "standard" motorcycle, with a semi-upright seating position. "Dull" may be a better word, but I have fun on it.

I always wave at other bikers regardless of bike type. 50/50 whether the Harley guys wave back. They see the open engine and upright riding style and know it's not a crotch rocket, but then they see the Honda wings and the full helmet and probably have to make a quick decision. :headscratch:

I'll wave at any muscle car driver, just as I bow to a sparring partner before I try to kick his ass. I expect I'll be more successful on the road than I have ever been in the ring.

Gotta look up the local club. Driving around in a pack of a dozen Shelbys would be pretty sweet. Even a dozen Mustangs of whatever type would be cool.

Yea .. I'd think it has to be a local and some cases, seasonal thing.

I've lived in a lot of places and although you can only spot a few Cobra or GT500s running around I wouldn't call the sightings rare.

Especially when ~4500 are made per model year.

Hold an event and be surprised what's sitting in someone's garage.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took the beast out for a spin yesterday. 30 degrees outside and the G:2s were skittish but the roads were clear and dry so whatdaheck.

Anyway, not 3 miles from my house I roll up behind a black stripe-delete with the dealer advertisement plate and a temp tag. We waved at eachother and played a bit of tag (but never over the speed limit, I promise officer! :hysterical:). We talked briefly at the next light; apparently he got his last Tuesday. His was a non-SVTPP with the Recaro seats.

So apparently my white stripe-delete now has an evil twin in the neighborhood.

I don't know of any others in NW South Dakota-sure haven't seen any. Might be some in the Hills area. If so, would like to get together for a cruise sometime. It would be fun to have a few Cobras together on the road. I'm sure there are some when Kool Deadwood Nites rolls around. Again, if anyone from Team Shelby plans to come to that great event let's get together!

Saw a white w/grey stripe Shelby something-or-other today. I need to work on my identification skills. Had a GT "gas cap", SHELBY lettering below the spoiler, no cobras, chrome bar grille, hood pins, no hood scoop of any type. I think there was a badge on the side, but I didn't pay close enough attention to it. 2010+ tail lights. I'm checking the Google for a picture of it.

I have driven from the east coast to the west coast and see very few 2010+ Gt500's, let alone Super Snakes. Even in Vegas, I seem to be alone when I am out running. In Washington not many, hear of them, but don't see them. There is 1 up here in Anchorage, just a GT500, not counting my GT500 SS, which is yet to make an appearance in Wasilla, Ak. Will be great to see all these beauties on the road soon for the 50th bash!!!!

Call me crazy, but this has to be because no one drives them, I cant believe more Z06 or ZR1's are sold than GT500's, I would think it would not even be close. I thought I read more GT500's have been sold the last 3 years than ALL Corvettes.

I will admit I do not see them often in the Winter, but I seem them every few weeks in the warmer months (Not counting my neighbor that has one)

I have a few buddies who own them but theirs are garage queens. I seldom see other GT-500's on the road but if there's a car show and I enter, there are ususally 20 plus Shelby's in the same late model Shelby class I'm in (LOL).

I've had my 2011 now for a year and a half and just turned 20,000 miles. Let the next guy worry about restoring it, I'm going to make him work by replacing lots of worn out/high mileage parts like I had to do on my 1970 Mach 1 which is my garage queen. B)

Basicaly this.

Depends on the year for total Corvette production vs GT500's though, 2011 'Vette production was 13596, vs I believe 5500 for the Shelby. But earlier years saw much higher Shelby numbers. Take out the base and GS models and it's no contest. Z06 production was only 904 in '11, and '09-'11 MY production was under 3850 combined.

Good Point, maybe I was reading that back a few years ago when the GT500 had no competition, the sales have slowed dramatically over the past few years. Then again so have the Corvette, that car is 3-4 years over-due for a full make over.

Makes you wonder why Ford keeps jacking the price up, it is out of reach for 98% of folks at over $60k.

Looks like more people who own Shelbys keep them longer then those who own Z06s. Thats why you wont see as many on the road because people are either collecting them (garage queens) or want to keep the miles extremely low. If I had gotten a z06 instead, id probably drive it everyday like most people down here in texas.
