msbmustang
Good Afternoon Everyone, Since I have hit 108K miles and will be finally doing the oil change with the Castrol 5W-50 Edge oil with higher zinc (1200ppm?) I thought I should check with the group here and see what else everyone thinks should be replaced now. Things like wheel bearings or fluids not normally changed out? For example I can’t find anything searching this site or the web on Super Charger oil? Is it a sealed assembly? After putting in the new spark plugs at 100K miles and seeing a huge difference in acceleration and about 1mpg (along with the new one piece driveshaft) it makes me think there other “maintenance gems” waiting to be discovered. (Spark plugs every 25K to 35K miles from now on!) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated…especially since I am out of work again Jan 1 and thus will have time to do “stuff” to the car, that is after I finish all of the “Wife’s list of projects”! Thanks and Merry Christmas, Mark / MSB Mustang
4632R
The pcv valve, engine coolant, brake fluid and belts are all typically 100k service items. I would also replace the gear oil in the differential, the trans fluid, the p/s fluid and the cabin air filter if not already done. There is oil in the supercharger and I believe it is also a 100k service item.
jr07shelby
Yes the supercharger is servicable. I have read it should be service's every 75,000 miles. Motorcraft offer's the oil for the supercharger, you can buy from you'r local ford dealer or motorcraft authorized distributor. I have read on other forum's on how to change the oil in the supercharger.
msbmustang
Well I may have been too late on doing something to the rear end. Tonight on the way home I had a very bad launch on a side street (trying to avoid a traffic jam on Wolfe Road) and now it feels like a shock is out. Very bumpy ride but when I pushed down on the rear of the car when I got home after my daily 43 mile commute it rebounded fine. (I have the yellow Koni shocks that I installed about 45K miles ago. Is it time for replacement rear shocks?) Could this also be a problem with diff? It has never been serviced or had the TSB's done and at 108K miles. (I did not know about the TSB for the diff and since my special factory warranty on my SVT#12 expired at 85K miles I will be paying for any fixes. Which is not good because my 10 month contract job at National Semi/Texas Instruments was not renewed this week and will be looking for EE analog-audio work again Jan1.) Instead of repair is there a better replacement diff I should put on? Also, I really like the Coast Driveline driveshaft we recently put on with the Ford Racing Short Shifter but could the new driveshaft have caused a problem with the diff? Doing the pcv valve, engine coolant, trans fluid (had the trans clutch TSB done at 75k miles), the p/s fluid and belts all sound like great suggestions (The entire brake system was rebuilt 5 months ago so the brake fluid is OK). However maybe I was too late on replacing the gear oil in the differential! So the question tonight is "Shocks or Diff"? Any easy way to tell or is it off to the shop on Monday? Or should I put it up on jack stands tomorrow and look around underneath? Sorry for all the questions but I am bit concerned tonight as I need the car for at least two more weeks. Thanks Everyone for all the great help and advice... as usual! Mark / MSB Mustang
