sdac guy
Could someone maybe look up this VIN,its a 87 shelby shadow? Anyone have more history about it,or the purpose of this car? Always looking for more info about it. Last eight digits is ...........HN470143 Thanks From the 1987 CSX VIN listing 04-104 - 2 - 470143 - 03/11/88 - X11 - 11 - Lotus - England 04-104 ---- Invoice number 2 ------------ vin check digit 470143 --- last 6 digits of vin 03/11/88 - scheduled ship date X11 -------- dash plaque number 11 ---------- engine number Lotus England -- shipped to For the next sequential vin, interesting ... 04 -103 - 4 - 470144 - 03/11/88 - X3 - 10 - Lotus - England why I find this interesting is that on both listings the engine number is not the normal engine number configuration. Normally on engine numbers it is 987 (from 1987) minus the dash plaque number. In the case of both cars X3 and X11 the engine number doesn't make much sense. What is in that spot I believe is what was to be the actual dash plaque number if the car had been sold through the dealer network. There are no cars with dash plaques 10 & 11 in the listing. However there is a car with dash plaque # 3, so the X? dash plaque wasn't necessarily the correct dash number with just an X added. Here it the listing for #3 04-296 - 5 - 505483 - 08/05/87 - 3 - 984 - Glendora Dodge - Glendora, CA As you can see, if you add the dash plaque number 3 to the engine number 984 the total would be 987 which would be correct. All the rest of the 1987 CSX's follow this configuration in the listing (with the exception of the X numbered cars or race car), see below. 04-102 - 6 - 504150 - ------------- X-1 -- --- - Containment-SAI 04-104 - 2 - 470143 - 03/11/88 -- X11 - 11 -- Lotus - England 04-101 - 5 - 470136 - ------------- X2 - ------- Durability-SAI-'88 04-103 - 4 - 470144 - 03/11/88 -- X3 -- 10 -- Lotus - England 04-105 - 6 - 470145 - ------------- X4 -------- SMS Imsa Car - Whitter, CA 04-106 - 0 - 470142 - ------------- X5 -------- SMS Imsa Car - Whitter, CA 04-444 - 3 - 524842 - 08/12/87 -- X6 -------- S.A.I. P.R. - Whitter, CA 04-842 - X - 508007 -07/05/88 - ------------- SMS Imsa Car - Whitter, CA As you can see only X3 & X11 have engine number designations. Those designations logically match plaque #'s 10 & 11. Hope this helps. Barry

Joe Anderson
I heard that twelve 1988 Prototype 16 valve motors were produced. And not all X cars received the 16 valve motor, but the ones that did...... got a engine serial number of 1 thur 12. Some of the twelve motors were also used in a couple of 1988 Shelby Spirit Prototypes. Anyone else heard something different? Anyone else have more information,or pictures from around the 1987-94 time frame?
