Stripes installed - but not quite right

Struggling with this situation and would appreciate your opinions...

Per my plan, I had black OEM stripes installed on my Kona Blue GT500 this past week. Overall, I love the color combination, and at least for me, it makes it a more authentic Shelby. Here's the rub: the gap between the stripes on the front half of the car is 1/4 inch wider than it should be. :doh:The rear stripes are perfect, and there are none up top since I have a glass roof. So, the front and back don't really match, plus I really want the car to meet the factory specs of a 1 and 7/16ths inch gap. It does bug me because it just doesn't quite look right to me, but maybe I'll get over it. What do you think - does this really matter? Would I be a freak if I go back and insist that the hood and front bumper be re-done? The guys doing the work have been great to deal with and I don't necessarily want to give them a hard time, but sheesh, I told them beforehand to make sure the gap is exactly 1 7/16ths inches. I wonder if the stripes can be relocated, or if they will have the significant expense buying new stripes for the front end and starting over.

Thanks.

If they made a mistake then they should do it over. They just got in a hurry. If you go to sell and the potential buyer is sharp he/she will see that the stripes are correct from frt to rear. It will cost you to make them right, so you must make them do it right. It's not your fault. Good luck

You pay for something you should get it. Great to work with means they LISTENED TO YOU which they did not.

If they are not right have them re- do it.

sweenstang,

Have your vendor replace the OEM tape, you paid for a service and it wasn't delivered. You're lucky the stripes weren't painted. That would be an ugly problem.

I was going to ask before I saw this part of your statement.

If you told them before hand exactly what you wanted and they didn't do it as prescibed, then by all means I say have them re-do it RIGHT.

If you hadn't specified the dimension, I would have had a different opinion.

You paid them money to do a specific job and they failed to do it as you prescibed. If you paid someone to paint your house white and they painted it yellow, would you have them repaint it?

even if they tell you they can move the stripes, dont let them do it--once that mastic adheres to the metal on the car,it wont hold if you move it.I did that on a GTO Judge i striped myself, and put it at the wrong height--got it off 2 days later,re-atached it and it came off in a couple weeks.Theyll haveto get a new stripe or stripes?? are they both off or can they just buy 1.

I did exactly what you did but with a Grabber Blue w/ SVTPP Red stripes on a SVTPP Stripe delete car. For some reason the factory did not offer this combo. I also had OEM Red Striped seat covers installed. But I had them do the whole car. Came out perfect but my Brother also has an '11 with factory stripes installed at the factory and my body man wanted to see that car as kind of a template for my car and the front stripes on his factory car where off by a little more than half of an inch! I was there when my body man ( who is very meticulous ) measured them. Oh well he Supersnaked that car so he did not really care.He got my stripes on better and straighter than the factory! That is pretty piss poor if you ask me. He said it was a pain in his butt but as I said earlier he is a very meticulous body man. All you guys that have '10, '11 or '12 Shelby's ( that want to ) grab a measuring tape and see the results from the factory. I would be interested to know if my brother's car was just a fluke? I doubt it. Also without that continuation over the roof I am not surprised but you payed for a perfect job, right? Anyway got to go, regards, denohew

I think you should let it go. As I recall above the difference was 1/4 inch. That is 1/8 on either side. That's the thickness of a chalk line. Who would even notice this? How many times have you tried to make things PERFECT only to realize you have made them WORSE? It's called tolerance for a reason. It's a real part of the real world.

No way. On a $5,000 older Mustang, maybe. But not a $55,000 Shelby. I'd have it re-done. It wold drive me crazy knowing it's not right. Someone that knows how to do tape stripes will have no problem making it perfect.

If the stripes were a freebie maybe I would let it slide---HOWEVER ,since you had to fork over money then you should get it done to your satisfaction!!!!!! Unfortunately that is what's wrong with our country today---we are willing to settle for mediocrity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

GET THEM REDONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
