Installed a new Shift Knob in Tanabanana's GT500

I ordered my wife Tana a new shift knob for her GT500 from https://www.speeddawg.com/ and it arrived yesterday. The phone number over there is (866) 906-7801. I ordered mine over the phone from Chris. He was very helpful and kept me informed of the production status and shipping and the tracking number. The ball we had made was a custom color and not something they stock. They can make you any color combo and have hundreds of knobs to choose from. We chose the new “racing series” because the stripes are the same ones that are on the bottom of the doors on a GT500. The quality is very good !

Cost

Knob $69.95

Adapter (12mm x 1.25) $0.00

Boot retainer that is threaded 12mm x 1.25 $23.95

Shipping $6.95

Total: $100.85

Installation

Gently pull down leather boot from existing knob and turn factory knob left to screw it off.

Then Screw on the threaded boot retainer.

Then screw on the brass adapter.

Then screw on the new shift knob.

Then gently pull the leather boot back onto the boot retainer.

The stripes on the knob match the stripes on the lower side of the GT500.

Great pix Rob, you make everything look so easy.

I need to check that sight and see if I can get one for my black/red stripe.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Call Chris at Speed Dawg and tell him that is the color that you want....and he will have it made. It takes 4-6 weeks to get, but well worth the wait if you want something special that matches your car. The adapters that you need are listed in the first post...and Chris carries it all.

After reading this thread I called Speed Dawg this morning and talked with Steve. I ordered the Rally Series black with pearl gray stripes. He was super nice and wanted to know how I heard of them and if there was anything more they could offer as far as product choice. He said that they are closing a deal with Ford right now that will allow them to use Ford logos.

Those shift knobs sure are nice. How does it feel on the palm of the hand versus OEM? Seems like a pretty easy changeout (the pics really help). :camera:

Mrs G - Congrats on ur GT500! Just got mine in August on my wifes B-day to be exact & it's been lots of fun so far. Seems endless as to mods that can be done with these machines.

Cheers,

Moncho

Has anybody ordered one of these with the 12v button in it? I'm going to put in a line-lock soon and it seems like that would be a great place for it, on the shift knob. (or would it get in the way for everyday driving)?

Then I could always convert it over to a "GO, baby GO" nitrous switch later on!

Woo-hoo!

I found a Hurst Pistol Grip shifter with the button in it that I plan to install in the future.

It's the best place for a line-lock button IMO. Get a good N2O system and it will self arm with Wide Open Throttle (WOT) so all you'll need is a power switch, which can easily be mounted in the console compartment and you can keep both hands on the wheel when it hits.

I have the ZEX system that incorporates WOT for squirt.
