DoubleX
I am wondering how much hp can an '08 convertible handle without problems. I know the SS package for the '08 is only available w/ 625hp, but the 2011+ SS package is available up to 800hp on the 'vert (per the brochure/online build). (aside...does anyone know what is different with the '11+ convertibles to allow the SS package to go to 800hp, or for the 07-09 packages to be limited to 625hp?) So is there anyone out there that has 750+hp in their 07-09 convertible and if so have there been any issues (besides traction ) In my case, I am really considering the FRPP 2.9L Whipple kit which is rated at 725hp for the 07-09 GT500's...but want to confirm I won't mess up my GT500 in the process. Craigo
I have an '08 vert with the 625 hp SS package but I had it ported and polished with a smaller pulley and tune giving her 663 rwhp on the dyno. If you add 10 to 15% in loss of hp in the transfer to the wheels i'm pushing 750 hp out of the engine. I still have the stock drive shaft and haven't had any problems. Now granted i don't runner her on the strip every weekend but I do have fun with her and with no problems. Craig

Justin00Stang
Ford engineers vehicles to last for 150,000 miles, however, 99% of shelby owners will never drive their cars that much. I think a vert at 700rwhp is going to be just fine for the amount it will get driven.
JohnFarmer
One other thought. In order to really risk damaging your car from torque you would have to be able to hook up the car and that would require slicks. I took my car to the track with DRs and was able to hook to the point of lifting the front wheels but I doubt you will put your car through that kind of abuse unless you put MTs on the car and dump the clutch at 6K. If you are running the car with street tires and all you will be doing is running through tires faster IMO. They are fun to run around with that kind of power but you will need to be on a roll to take advantage of the power and at point you will not be shocking the car like you will on a hard launch with slicks. There are lots of verts running around making 700+ at the rear so I would not be worried about it.
mrfarmdog
Not to highjack this thread but I just noticed that I had logged in using Facebook and it created a new account for me and a new profile. I logged out and in under my user name and password and should be back to my profile. Not sure if members realize that will happen.
Poisnus
I have the Whipple 2.9 along with the other mods in my sig on my '09 vert. It laid down 709 at the wheels, no problems to date.
stsltd
Just over 700 rwhp in mine - no problems at all - do keep the bolt in roll bar installed, just for safetys sake, tightens up the chassis some, but not really required Hard to keep the grin off your face... glroy
Yes 700 plus is quite dueable. My friend's 10 is putting down 763 , but it is a scarry monster that breaks the tires loose and sideway in 4th . Scarry at a 100 MPH. I have about 600 RWH in mine and I have discoverd that any more is just bragging rights . I resently ran mine in a half mile and hit around 135 . A 07 super snake coupe on the same course ran in the 140s. With 600 HP I hope to surpass the 150000 mile range (46000 on the car now) and not twist the car in half. Just my 2 cents
