Looks like Chevrolet has shown their hand again

It's cool...It will be interesting to see how the car holds up structurally with that kind of power. I am most impressed with the purported traction and launch control...as we have all said, whether 550 or 580 HP, it is all about getting it to the ground. That said, I still MUCH prefer the lines and look of the body of the GT500 over that of this camaro. It's just a much prettier car than the camaro in my opinion...either hard top or vert.

I like the new Camaro and think Chevrolet did a great job with it. It helps every other car maker keep on their toes with continued product development.

As for the ZL1, November is special for Shelby this year too. ;)

I am guessing that means we will see the next GT500 at the LA auto show :)

I figured we may since Ford was adimant about not letting the ZL1 steal the spotlight. Just when customers are trying to order a ZL1, they will catch a glipse of the 600+hp Shelby :)

No - Ford will SAE certify it meaning the advertised power level will be accurate.

Yeah, I'm betting it will be "detuned" to 600 hp (LOL). That would make a nice round number. If you remember all the speculation back in 2005/6 about the upcoming Shelby's and it was initially thought it would be 450 hp and that's what the magazines were quoting. I was asking a Ford engineer at Carlisle that year and he smiled and said, "See that number on the lower rocker? It will mean more than just GT-500", and laughed. :worship:

FWIW, Post on Car and Driver comment section in response to the Conv. ZL1 says:

Oh, and then GT500 may get a name change to GT600 for the same reason it was called GT500, the hp level, for fall 2012...625 hp and 565 tq are the current numbers running around ford...

Same poster claims wider wheels and tires. November could be a very interesting month.

Both... Even if it is an SVT product. Shelby inspired the build at the very least. No?

:salute:

And I don't care how they dress up the new camaro. It's still a camaro.... :barf:

Exactly....I also don't like all that bracing like an X brace and V brace. They forgot the H brace. :hysterical: I am not sure about the GT500 vert on what bracing it has underneath but I am sure it is not as ugly as the Camaro bracing.

The fact that this poster thinks the HP figure was the reason they named it GT500 is enough for me to completely discount anything and everything he has to say on the subject.
