Spare Tire and Spare Key Questions

Guys I just purchased a used 2011 GT500 Vert with SVTPP. Now a couple of things.

1) Of course I had to buy this from a chevy dealer which didn't even know how to open the gas tank. I noticed that mine didn't have a spare tire. There is a spare tire hole in the trunk and an electric compressor with an attached can of sealant to inflate a flat tire but no spare tire. Are these run flat tires? Or am I missing a tire. What's the deal??

2) Second problem they cant find the spare key. But he says they have a guy that can do the spare key for $150? Or give me a check for $150 so I can go to the Ford dealership and get the key done for $250 inst that nice. What should I do? Anything special about these keys I know they need to be programmed but inst there a valet key and or what other things do I need to worry about. He also said something about an Admin key which could unlock extra HP?? I though he was full of BS but you never know? Anyone know? Should I just go to Ford and spend the $250 or have a key maker do it. He says he's got all the stuff and they do this stuff all the time.

The GT500 of any year did not come with a spare tire, due the two different sizes of tires that came on the car. The compressor/sealant is how you fix a flat. It's all in the owners manual. The tires are not run flat tires. The dealers is full of BS, the is no such thing as an Admin Key. When new all the engine horsepower was not available until a set number of miles were on the car or a certain number of key starts. I can't remember how many miles but it was low. That should be in the owners manual or the Ford service department can tell you. If the car is used it probably has passed the number of miles needed to get all the boost. Just nail the gas and watch the boost gauge if goes up it's ok. Go to the Ford dealer and have the key made, that way there will not be any mistakes. Please read the owners manual it has important information about tires in cold weather. towing, flat tires, and automatic car washes. Reading it could save you some trouble later on.

Thanks for the info. I already found out about those tires in cold weather. They don't hook up for squat!

if you are interested and in the Tampa, FL area

i have an OEM s197 spare tire, jack and lug wrench for sale.

If you ever got a flat on the front you could easily swap the rear tire to the front and run that in emergencies. That was my plan till I got 10.5" rears.

PM me if interested.

As for the spare- I'm running a full size spare- cost me $300 for the whole thing.

Here's the thread- sorry that's it on the "other" forum

So your running the SVTPP package aswell? I'm just concerned that with 20" Rear wheels that the 18" wheel and tire will be proper ride hight and now mess anything up with the rear diffrential. I measured around 26 1/2" highth from floor to top of tire. Maybe a little more maybe a little less. Does this solution work on the SVTPP 20" rear wheel / tire combo?

a standard 18 inch mustang spare and a 3mm spacer will work to clear the brembos in the front and is no problem for the back

I have a 2011 GT500 that I bought new and I was told at that time that the tire sealant and compressor are standard. The dealer told me that the Supercar tires are a run flat tire. I bought a rim off of ebay as a take off that had a couple hundred miles on it for $400, bought a TPMS and a new tire to match the back tire size due to the fiber plate limited slip diff. You can run different sizes on the front but that is not recommended for the rear so I matched that. I got two keys and a blank when I bought the car so I con't know about the key question.
