03 DSG Snake
The ZR1 could be $30k and I still would never buy a Corvette. Something other than a Mustang, sure. Just can't get into the C5/C6 whatsoever.

kb67
You know Ford went to the ring for a reason with the GT500 the camaro has some nice tech in it Ford needs to step it up traction and handling department. They can do it I'm sure but will they go after the death blow and make the mustang outclass the camaro to the point its not a contest anymore. Tejas500
The GT500 already out handles the Camaro, it weighs less, and is soon to out perform the ZL1 in power by 20-70 HP, and I am sure it will get comparable upgrades to match or best the ZL1 in the braking and suspension departments. With all of that in mind I would have no doubt that the 2013 GT500 would beat that time in similar conditions by at least 2-3 seconds if not more. SGT/SC#0471
Would love to see what a pro driver would lap in a whippled and braked SGT with a watts link.
Crushinator
I always wondered what an '11 or '12 GT500 would run. Has anyone ever posted a time? You see so much talk about it these days. I'd think the 500 would be in the ballpark of low to mid 7:40's...wouldn't it?

03 DSG Snake
The ZL1 isn't a Corvette. Figured that one out after the fact. All the stupid Z designations get confusing. My statement still stands on the Camaro.

I still have a hard time getting past the looks though (looks like a tub to me). Would also love to know how a 11 or 12 SVTPP would fair. As many others have menioned before hopefully the 13 will get much better traction control and further suspension refinements to match the upcoming increase in power and braking ability. That would make a big difference.
Rarecat
I love it, I'm thrilled the HP/Muscle Car Wars are in full swing! Looks like it topped out at 172 MPH, very cool! I would love to drive the ring, might have to add that to my bucket list

The ZL1 has MRC and a completely different suspension. This isn't an SS we are talking about. The GT500 might outhandle " the Camaro" meaning SS but I doubt the ZL1. The ZL1 clocked 1 second slower than the Ford GT. The ZL1 is no joke and to think the 13' GT500 is just gonna smoke it is, well, dumb.

There are a great many changes that need to be done to the car for it to match what the ZL1 is doing. Maybe Ford has been secretly working on it for years, if not it's going to be a long couple of years listening to Camaro owners bash the GT500. ChrisSD
Laugh all you want guys, that time is *incredible*. It is 18 seconds faster than the CTS-V which would beat the 2012 GT500. 2007 - 2012 GT500's will get destroyed by this thing. 2013 is the best hope we have stock versus stock. mustang let back
the CRAPMARO zl1 is not even in production yet.the car they tested is not one pulled off the line.Generic Motors is doing just like they have always done, they sent a souped up car there to get that number.it is said that the SCRAPMARO zl1 might weigh 4200lbs.the 5.8 GT500 will spank the zl1 and all of the gadgets that they put on that car wont mean a thing. :happy feet:

REVENGE
Impressive. If the 2013 GT500 can beat then it will be the GT500 to get. Like was previously said in this thread lots of 2007-20012 owners will be looking to get into the 2013. Can we say ADM again?
metal_driver
Check out the unofficial 2013 GT500 test mule times at the 'ring' mentioned by thePill in post 4 of this thread.... http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f57/2013-gt500-nurburgring-103635/ The GT500's reported time of 7:35 time sounds better to me than the ZL1's claimed time of 7:41. Tejas500
I simply find it hard to believe that a car that much heavier will outdo the new and improved 2013 GT500 which will spec out superior in every way except for the rear suspension design which has been beaten to death. We can all run our mouths about what we speculate, formulate, or debate that these cars will do, but until either one is sitting on a dealers lot with a window sticker I refuse to believe any of it. "The proof is in the pudding" or so they say and right now all we have is a recipe, no pudding.

speedyman
Some of this internet racing is absolutely hillarious. The "Ring" is a 14 mile course. If we were at all sane, rational, adults, we'd be discussing the MPG of the Focus vs Cruz on a 14 mile simulated commute.
