Alcoa Widening Reasonbly Priced Tires

Recommended Posts

I recently sent my 20 X 9 inch rims off to be widened to 20 X 11 1/2. I will use the 20 X 10 inch rims on the front. There are far too many post on this and I guess I will add to them. That being said. I would like some reasonbly priced tires to fit these rims. The Dunlaps at $800.00 are to much. I was hoping to find good tires at or below the $400.00 price. Any help especially tires that will fit the front I would appreciate.

Thanks

What about the 315/30 Toyo R888 for the 11.5's? <<<The only issue is that only a 285/35 is listed in a 20 as a match for possible front use.

Is a 305 an option for you?

You will have to mismatch front and rear tire brands.

+1 for the Toyo R888's on the rear 315/30 on a 11.5" wheel.

That is what I have found through extensive tire spec. search and research. If someone wants matching tires at all four corners, the options are very limited in our widened Alcoa world.

I have seen the 285/35 and 315/30 R888 tire combo used on the 350Z cars, but I am concerned that the 285 may not clear the GT500 strut. The overall diameter of these two size R888's are close enough to use together front and rear, but I would have to see the fitment of the 285/35 R888 on a 10" Alcoa first, and then installed on the car to verify if it is a usable option. It may work, but it will be Real close. All that really matters is that it clears...........

I think 285's will rub.

But hey, it's only money. lol

...............and they may rub. There is less than 1/2" difference (10mm) between the 275 and 285. I still have a small amount of room between my strut and 275 for inward movement. It really will come down to the actual tires themselves, does my Dunlop run on the wider side? or does the R888 run on the smaller side? It would be interesting to verify the fit, but I am done with fitting Alcoa tire/wheel combo's.

If the R888 tire/wheel combo outlined above, does not fit, the only alternative that I know of (if matching tire brand on all four corners is a requirement) will be down sizing the rear tire size and then working on the set-up that fits the rims best from that point.

If a 305 tire on the rear is an acceptable option, I have some ideas that may work with the 11.5"/10" Alcoa combo...........

Check out the Tire Rack and the Continental Extremes. Try the 325/25R20's for the rear($335) and 275/30R20 for the front($248). The are not as sticky as the Toyo's of Pilot Sport Cups or Dunlops. But, the are fine for the street. I run Hoosier R6's on the track. I really wanted the Toyo's, but the 285's don't work on the 9" front rim. They also wouldn't rub. I run 295's on the fronts at the track and they only rub at/or near full lock. I think the 285's would be fine.

Also if you buy before 10/15 you get a free GPS, which for me is going to make a nice Christmas gift for somebody.

BJ - The price seems to be very reasonable on the Conti Extremes, they are shorter yes, but that might not be an issue to many guys and it might look really cool once the car is lowered to a correct height.

So from your tire fitting experience with a 295 on the front, the 285 R888 "may" fit the front..........and a 10" rim would be a nice width for a 285/35. It would be nice to have a "tire shop friend" order in one 285 R888 and mount it on a 10" Alcoa for test fitting, no driving on it, just bolting it in place with a towel between it and the garage floor, and first of all see if it bolts in place, then set the car down and then turn it from lock to lock to verify no fender, or inner fender contact. If it doesn't work, return it with no scuffs and sticker(s) in place. If it does work, that would be Great!!

Did I make the mistake of widen to 11.75?

what is the front matching tire to the donlop 325

The matching front to the rear Dunlop 325/30/20 SP Sport Maxx GT is a 275/35/20 SP Sport Maxx GT. <<Mine is on a 10" front.

The diffference is as the rim gets narrower, the bulge becomes more with any given tire. 11.75 should be a very nice fit for the 325/30.

Yes, when I found the set of spare Super Snake logo'ed wheels for widening, they had TPMS sensors and the stainless bands already installed on them. I left the sensors and bands in place on the two wheels that I sent to Weldcraft and when I got them back the tires were mounted and they are now on my car. The original 10's with their TPMS sensors are now on the front.

Ok I actually bought 2 9in wheels and sent them out to weldcraft and I have another set of 9 in and the rear 10 in to move up front, so in the end i'll have a spare set of 9in

You should be in good shape. I am interested in seeing the final result.
