GT on the way

The story goes like this...

Last fall we were selling the Barrett Jackson Shelby GT. A friend from Ford - he arranged the Barrett Jackson GT edition and we met and kept in touch after we donated the first one to the Shelby Foundation - contacted me (without knowing we were actually selling) and asked if we were interested in selling it to someone who wanted to do another charity donation at Scottsdale 2011. That didn't happen but while we were talking I asked if he knew of any Ford GTs that might be in dealer inventory. He didn't but knew of a private sale, got me a price and info on the car. It is a Heritage (Gulf blue and orange) with <1000 miles. Price was right but we wanted to refinance after the first of the year and my wife wanted her garage space back so I let it slip.

Fast forward to about a month ago. I contacted him again and asked if the car was still available. Lo and behold, it still is. He wanted a little (but not much more) and we closed the deal.

Pictures from a cell phone that he sent (I need them for insurance - I'll take some better ones when it gets here):

I get to take it on 10-Oct where it will go to "The GT Guys" in Detroit for some mods - supercharger pulley and tune, short throw shifter, FRPP (Borla) muffler and a clear bra, and probably some racing harnesses.

I hope it gets here before we get snow since I won't take it out after they put sand down on the roads. Like Grabber, it will be locked up for the season. (I don't bubble mine since we don't have a humidity problem)

Then, coincidentally, the Cobra sold last night so the garage space concern is moot.

That's great news Tony. I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. As soon as Robert posts the dates for the Vegas Bash you can start the planning :)

Steve

It will be really awesome if it is in April or May. I can't take a chance going over I70 in the winter. It even snows in April. I might consider towing it but would really have to get an enclosed trailer. The Cobra took too much of a beating being towed in October on the open trailer.

Wow......happy-2.gif

Love the color combo on your new car Tony. I too hope the bash is in May. I'm looking forward to seeing you and the car. Tana and I will be attending no matter what month the party is.

Congrats on getting the car.

Tony,

Congrats! It looks like this FGT is sporting Wisconsin plates. Back in September of 2006 I remember seeing a Gulf unit sitting on the showroom floor at the Ford dealer in La Crosse. Unfortunately, I didn't have my checkbook with me at the time and have regretted it ever since...

Last fall when it became clear that I wasn't going to convince my wife that the Cobra was fun and decided to sell it. She also wanted her garage space back. I had told her that the Cobra would go for something equally raw but more civilized with A/C. I considered a Daytona Coupe but she just considered it a Cobra with a hard top even though the new CSX9000s are awesome. In the end I could have gotten an aluminum 9000 which was in progress but the consigner backed out for the same price as the GT. I haven't given up yet and I still think a Coupe will be in my garage some day. We also decided to try to sell both the Mustang and the Cobra since she demanded her garage space for the winter. If the Cobra went first we would have kept the Mustang, but it sold first. The Ford GT was first choice, and was a heavy contender at the time when I bought the Cobra but had always wanted the Cobra so it was #1.

My first color choice was for Tungsten, but I have not seen a private Tungsten sale in over a year, and all of the dealers are asking the same price for a mid-mileage (5000-10000) Tungsten as I got the low-mileage Heritage.

Congrats.

The GT is the "One".

Enjoy her and be very careful when the weather is sub 65*.

Especially on 6 year old tires.

I'm betting they will compare comparably (with neither being all that good) with the Goodyear Eagle IIs that are on the Cobra. Similar temperature conditions apply. People are switching to stickier Bridgestones.

Well, I for one am dying to know what its like when you finally get it and drive it. I think a lot of us have had your desire as well for a GT 40 but it would require us to sell other cars or mortgage the house......lol. "But I gots to know"....... WAS IT WORTH IT?

Awsome Tony! Congrats on the sale of your Cobra. Can't wait to see the GT. I almost had my father in law talked into your Cobra, but he had the same problem with my mother in law not being comfortable in the car. He is also on the search for something, but not sure what yet. I'll try to keep him in the Ford/Shelby family for something. He's also looking at some custom 32 coupes, but modernized. PS, I would have kept your Cobra in my garage for the small fee of getting to put a few miles a year on it! :) ha..ha...

I am getting new tires. I really do want something that hooks up better than the hard rocks I've had on the Mustang and Cobra. So I'm springing for some Bridgestone265/40ZR18 front and 345/35ZR19 rears.

It looks like the OEM tires are 235/45ZR18 front and 315/40ZR19 rear listed Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Aren't these the ones used on some GT500 (SS?) I'll be taking them back but not interested in storing them. If they'll work on something else make me an offer.

I've had great luck with Bridgestone. Dunlops too.

We did a <48 hour trip to Vegas this weekend to see Blondie at the Mandalay Bay beach. Not a bad show but not the best we've seen. The stage is over a pool on a sandy beach (all man made) with a huge wave pool Debbie Harry can still belt the old standards out, but the sound was just all whacky. The instruments came across way overmodulated and sometimes drowned out her vocals.

Anyway, my friend with a little local auto dealer who is helping orchestrate both the Cobra sale and GT purchase (it becomes a "trade" for which I only pay sales tax on the difference) emailed me while we were at the show that the GT is mine. They have my money, I have the title (well, George does) and the car is on the way to get the mods done. Parts were ordered on Thursday with a completion date by the 23rd, so I will have it by the end of the month. I can't wait :)

What plate? We get up to 7 characters (space is allowed, as is "-"). From a list I got a while ago, the usual suspects like FORDGT are taken. We can't use 0 (zero) but "o" is ok.

Somehow I think "o6FRDGT" might work. But I think I'm going to try for "GULF GT" as first choice. GOZFAST or GOZFSTR for 2nd, don't have a 3rd yet.

Any other suggestions? I want to send in the form in a day or so...
