Nitro
Last six digits of the VIN number is the serial number or sequence number of your car.
twobjshelbys
Unlike the GT500s and GT350s of the 60's which had a VIN tag and a Shelby tag, GT500's are manufactured wholly by Ford, and as such don't have a separate Shelby ID tag. The VIN tag is in the standard places - viewable from the driver's side windshield, on the inside driver door tag, and etched into other major compoenents of the car. You get one a Shelby tag if you send your GT500 to Shelby for SuperSnake treatment though.
LuckySnake
Last six digits of the VIN number is the serial number or sequence number of your car. Correct on the last six digits but VIN does not always follow build date sequence with newer Mustangs or Shelby Mustangs.

The differential does not include the VIN serial number either. The transmission has the VIN serial number stamped into the case. The only way to verify original engine serial numbers is documentation available through Ford.
