SHELBY1962X
My '07 just turned 4,000 miles and I don't like the feel of the shifting and never really did. It is a stock 6speed with the Shelby shifter and the car did have the TSB on the clutch at 1,200 miles. My concern is how tight and rough the shifter moves between gears, even when not running. Just rowing through the gears feels like shit is being forced through every time, i can hear and feel the parts moving around. I've never missed a gear or heard a grind while driving, it's just extremely tight and not smooth. I never drove another GT500 to compare but last week I drove a new BOSS 302 and that shifter was as smooth as silk through all the gears and it was a beautiful thing.Does the new BOSS have a different transmission or could there be something screwed up on mine? The shift feel of my 07 improved when I replaced the stock trans fluid. If you're still using the original fluid, you might want to change yours. The best I've found is Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Auto Trans Fluid. The Mobil 1 was recommended by a tech at Tremec.

It sounds like the mechanic that performed the TSB didn't assemble your transmission correctly and/or reinstalled damaged parts. The first thing I would do is reinstall the stock shifter to prove one way or the other if Shelby shifter is causing your problem. If you still have the problem after the stock shifter is installed, I would take the car to a dealership you trust to help you get the transmission replaced or repaired. If your problem is gone after reinstalling the stock shifter, get a another shifter besides the Shelby unit. Many people have had troubles with the shelby shifters, both generations. I base my last statement on different posts that I read here on TS over the last year or so, seems like some work and some don't. The GT500 transmission is every bit as good as a Boss tranny and stronger. My GT500 shifts very good, been using a Steeda Tri-Axe with zero problems. Ford replaced my transmission January 2008 before the TSB came about, day and night difference. My original transmission didn't want to go into 5th gear without letting the rpms drop way down, Ford replaced it because the input shaft had surface rust and the clutch disk would hang up, not because of my 5th gear problem. The only flaw I have with my replacent transmission is I have to baby the second gear shift on the first shift into second for the day, once it's warmed up it's flawless. I would try to address your car's problem sooner rather than latter and get Ford to pick up the bill if the shifter isn't causing your problem. I have also followed the different threads about changing to a different tranny fluid and I think some fluids may help a little but improved fluid won't fix a tranny with problems. I switched to GM transmission fluid part number 88861800 in February 2009 after researching and noticed an improvement, still running the same fluid. Hope this helps. SHELBY1962X
I finally had a few days off and had a chance to look into the shifter issue and found the problem. After pulling the inside boot I saw the the two bolts on the handle were loose and the four on the bottom were also loose. I guess the ford mechanic that installed the shifter either got sidetracked or was too concerned about his flat rate time. Either way the car shifts great now. Amazing how long I can put off an annoying problem before I actually have the time to deal with it.
