I was with B-J / Delp / Chartis for the last 4 years paying 340.00 per year with a insured value at 60k. I just recieved my 2011-12 renewal and now it 850.00 . They told me that they revised their policys on the late model collector cars and will see if they can get me a better rate.

I'm 50, clean record , no claims and 1000 miles per year on My 500.

Try STATE FARM....you can get an over 50 discount, low mileage policy (in GA that is up to 7500/year) and it should be a nice number.

Call a local agent and get some numbers from them...you may be pleasantly suprised at what you will find, especially if you add all your other vehicles and homeowners together to max out all your discounts.

Good luck and let me know if you need any suggestions or assistance finding a local agent.

I'm an agent in GA for past 13 plus years and SGT owner.

Andy.

I Just switched all my cars to Chrome insurance. Many of us on here have this and are very happy. They are also agreed value, which is not depreciated like stated value. Here is the info on the person I dealt with, great guy and very into cars and knows his stuff with no BS. Tell him Alex from Palm Springs sent you...

I have had DELP (Chartis) for about 2 years and was paying about $640 for my 2007 Super Snake in CA. $100k agreed to value, no deductible, and no mileage limit (although they hoped it was minimal). This was approximately half of what it was with Hagerty prior to changing to DELP. I talked with them at the Orange County Barrett Jackson as I had heard they were dropping this insurance and other rumors. They explained that they were NOT dropping anyone but they had over extended and were limiting the number of new customers. They said that rates were going to go up and yes, my rate jumped to $1080 recently. Still below the other guys i had shopped but a big jump indeed. i will try some of the other places I see mentioned: Chrome(?), etc to see if there is a better deal. But would HATE to have a mileage limit!

+1

I switched too. The only real restriction was 10k mileage a year.

Tony's a good guy to work with.

Might also consider Hagerty and Grundy for quotes. I have my cars with Hagerty. Classic cars are all they do and typically (being a retired insurance agent) most folks whom have had a claim (with Hagerty that I know of anyway), have had a great claims experience. Remember the old saying " no-one is talking premium when they have a claim". Good luck - i'lll be interested in seeing where you decide to go.

Mine went from $345.00 to $600.00 for a 2007 shelby gt/sc valued at $60,000. :rant2:

I also have Chartis. Have recently renewed at basically same excellent rates as last period. I do have a 2007 SS plus several other pre-80's muscle cars. Maybe I am getting a volume discount? They offer full stated value and no depreciation.

Seriously guys and gals, I make nothing off Tony getting your business, I am simply stating how happy I am with not only a great price, but a great service. It is worth the 10 minutes, in my opinion, to get a quote from him. He is a car guy that actually cares and will take the time to explain things that no other insurance person ever has to me. There are many "gray areas" that are not discussed. Tony will explain if you call or email him. When I was not happy with my own insurance, I asked questions and shopped around. None of the companies I called (and I called all fo these and more than listed here!!) really had an expert answer or skirted my questions, and did not give me a good feeling. Tony did. You all know I have LOTS of cars. Glad I have a feeling now that I am taken care of. Insurance is not something that we want to think about, but is really a serious subject with these cars we really care about, like a member of the family...

When you say full stated value, this means they will low ball in a soft market in the case of a loss. I offer an agreed value at american national, and I am across the bay. Tony 650 224 4993.

Just called Delp/Chartis BJ's insurance underwriter and talked to Amy. She indicated that for those of us who have multiple cars (I have three, 2008 Shelby GT-500KR, 2003 Terminator and a 1966 Sunbeam Alpine) insured your rate should be safe however you won't know for certain until you are 30 days out when you will receive a renewal notice. In my case she didn't anticipate a rate increase in my policy. I didn't ask her if the rate was safe with a second car, third, etc. so my advice would be to call them even if you only have the one car insured and especially if you have multiple cars insured.. I also had contacted Tony Gay with American National and as Alex has indicated he is a collector car guy himself and a terrific agent to work with, very professional and genuinely concerned of what is happening to our rates. Since he isn't able to write policies in Tennessee he had forwarded my information to a cohort who does handle Tennessee and I was contacted within 24 hours with a rate quote. So I definitely would check with him and he will do his best to help you out.

I also had contacted Tony Gay with American National , he referred me to a agent in the Chicago area . His quote was in the same range as Chartis/ BJ with the same coverage . Since my policy expires in a week and no time to get an appraisal for a 60k replacement value I just renewed it with Chartis for now. Thanks for everyones help.

I'm getting the GT coverage lined up and spent some time shopping around. I will be staying with TDC Risk Management (formerly Delp) and Chartis. All of the others are in the same ballpark, but slightly more. I got my Cobra policy about 3years ago, and before they got the Barrett Jackson branding.

Most of us were on a policy rate of $0.40 / $100 declared vale. Indeed, my Cobra loss damage portion was about $400, plus the mandatory liability stuff brought it to about 600/year. Because it was an existing policy on what is considered an older vehicle that rate would have remained if I kept the car. She informed me that the 0.40 rate was going away for most people (i.e., single car, newer car). Anyway, since I have all of my business with TDC (Auto Owners group for the other cars and homeowners, and we pay annual premiums) they were able to get a $1/100 rate. That puts it exactly the same as other quotes. If I had the Cobra (i.e., two cars with Chartis) the GT would have probably been $0.60/100 because it was "newer" and a higher risk than the Cobra.

It does help if all of your insurance is with them but that's always been the case. Even within Auto Owners we get a discount for the two vehicles and homeowners. Paying annual premiums also gets big discounts.

Do your homework and don't be afraid to ask.

But for sure the 0.40 / 100 rate is gone. It was a steal and was probably being used to get customers in, especially as their customer base which was fairly small and close knit group expands.
