Howdy...

I went to the Dallas Auto Show today and shot a video (about 3 minutes long) of the GT500 rotating around while the "marketing guy" gave his spiel. He had obviously memorized a script but it's interesting to hear what he had to say.

Notable things he said:

8000-10000 Units being produced for 2007

475HP and 500TQ

Standard audio system is 80 watts - either Shaker is an upgrade

Five colors will be available for the GT500 - he didn't go into details

$40,000 for the coupe

$45,000 for the vert

0-60 in less than 4 seconds

13 second 1/4 mile et

This is NOT high quality video!!! :D but the audio is good to hear.

The link to the Windows Media Format (.wmv) video I shot - it's about 7.8Mb and you'll need to unzip it once you download it is at - Dallas Auto Show Video.

If you have a pop up blocker you'll need to disable it possibly in order to get the download prompt.

Enjoy!

Ha, yeah, the sub-4 sec 0-60 time doesn't really jive with a 13 second 1/4 unless it's just horrible on the top end. Yeah, first time I've heard the 500TQ claim, too.

I have to admit it, the car doesn't look like a $70k car in person. It's beautiful no doubt but it really looks like a Mustang with a body kit on it. It makes me wonder if the people on EBay have ever actually seen the car in person or if they're bidding completely blind. At 4000+ lbs, it's not going to touch the Z06 in a race either.

Oh, the guy also said mid-late June for availability - whatever that means.

I'm looking forward to hearing the thoughts of the first wave of owner/drivers after they've put a few miles on them. If it's truly a top performer they will be scarce but if they've overpromised and underdeliver, they'll be cheap. There are just too many competitors out there now for Ford to screw this up. Power numbers are great but that's just dyno racing...

On the other hand, if you're willing to spend $5k on a twin screw and a tune while upping the boost to 12# then it should be a real screamer. I for one, will be willing :)

That's the first time I've heard the 500TQ number. Intersting.

At the Denver Auto Show, the guy said 0-60 in about 4 seconds, 1/4 mile in 11.5 sec.

Thanks for the vid!

Think Positive Man!!

4000+lbs. Okay, since when?. What does a BMW M5 weigh?

Competitors? What Competitors? Camaro? Firebird? Trans Am? Chevelle? GTO? Buick GS/GN? Charger? Challenger? Cuda? Roadrunner? AMX? Javelin? Where are they? They don't exist except for the very sad Charger wanna' be.

A Mustang has never been and never will be comparable to a Vette. Two seater composite vs Four seater iron? The probability that a stock Shelby will be able to outrun a stock C6 Vette is good enough for me and a testament to the ability of Ford to make a 475hp Muscle Car for $40000. Nobody else is doing it. Good on Ford.

The GTO for one - they're fast. The Cadillac "V" series for another. The C6 Vette is now directly comparable to the Shelby since it's in the same price range and I don't know that the Shelby can outrun it till I see it. The Mustang is barely a 4 seater - it's not real roomy back there. Don't discount that weight factor - I drive a 6000lb vehicle with a 430HP engine but I can't touch a 4200lb, 385HP Lightning in a race due to weight.

... once you've gotten into $70k territory by grossly overpaying, you have entered Z06 territory. Good luck there. I use the $70k number because I *believe* someone on EBay bid $31k over MSRP.

I've been waiting on this car (the GT500) as long as everyone else here... just have been amazed at the wild expectatations that have arisen - that's all. The feeding frenzy on this car really got out of hand I think. The name "Carroll Shelby" still evokes plenty of emotion for sure.

I do not know that the GT500 will be slow... I'm just tempering my own expectations. Like I said earlier, I'm more than willing and able to mod the motor to my liking. The red convertible in Dallas is a beautiful car and I'd love to see one in my garage but only at a reasonable price for what I'm getting. I guess my original point was that I wonder what people will think of the car after they actually see it in person and test drive it - I wonder if they'll still feel the same once the myth becomes reality? ...and by that, I'm not assuming they'll have negative feelings just curious as to how it'll be once it's available.

Remember, I'm as big of a Ford fan as anyone here!
